I think grenades do not kill people if you die to a grenade yourself while it is being thrown.
Had a situ where I just released as I died, it definitely had 2 people within radius, and didn't get one of them.

While it's pretty Battlefield to be able to drop vehicles on top of buildings, it's a nightmare for balance.

Was playing breakthrough on Kaleidoscope and the enemy dropped minigun hovercrafts/cars on top of both skyscrapers at C. It made it pretty much impossible to take since they parked one outside of each elevator constantly spraying any doors that opened and any choppers trying to drop were gunned down by miniguns and a dozen AA missiles. I really do miss defined classes.

Also lol that you can't play multiple games in a row and instead are punted back to the matchmaker to get stuck with a different random group of people. Seriously what a loving joke.

Oh, is that how they're dealing with their seeming inability to autobalance servers now? 5's servers were terrible and teams would never, ever, scramble. Considering you couldn't change sides once you were in game, you'd just get stuck on the losing team forever because the winning team wouldn't leave so there'd be no spots.

Has anyone put in some work with the lever action rifle? Not sure what niche this is supposed to fill since it seems to be worse than the SVK in every single way. It shoots way slower, has a longer reload and becomes a 3hit kill at long ranges. The slow rate of fire is absolutely brutal.

The only thing it has over the SVK is that it has no bloom or deviation while you are moving either with ADS or hipfiring. The bullet will go where your crosshair is. But that isn't nearly enough to make up for everything else unless you are some sort of headshot god, and even then the SVK is accurate enough at close range that I have hipfired my way to victory against people who jumped me.

I wasn't sure exactly how Dice planned to balance this gun against dmrs and slug shotguns. I don't have slugs on the shotgun unlocked, but I assume that is worse than the SVK or lever action. But at least with a shotgun you can change ammo type on the fly so you aren't completely hosed at close quarters.

If you are defending on Hourglass breakthrough and manage to get a tank to land on point D1(top of the skyscraper), I don't think it's possible for you to lose at anymore. Or maybe even without the tank. You can only get up there through the elevator(lol) or with some ziplines. It's also tall enough that you can't fly a drone up there to blow the defenders.

Whats the verdict after the weekend?

Having fun with it. My friends and I have mostly been playing hazard zone now that we've gotten the hang out it. It's the quickest to level up and the pace is faster than other battle royal games.

However - lots of glaring quality-of-life oversights or out-and-out negligence in its development. Menu and in-game UI is bafflingly bad. Major lack of achievables/collectibles in the form of the playercard/tagline. Some bugs straight up break the game such as one that makes you appear as friendly to the enemy team and vice versa (although this is rare and has only happened to me once). No integrated voice com makes playing with a pug group in hazard zone unviable. Everyone having res ability is frustrating. Having to grind kills in vehicles to access upgrades for them is frustrating.

I haven't played a battlefield game since BF2 and even then, I mostly played 1942. In those, I felt like I could make a big difference in a game on my own. In this, I never feel like I'm making a difference even if I'm doing a lot.

Yeah, it loving rules. :rip: to when it eventually gets patched out.

Really digging being a hovercraft menace. The grenade launcher has a killer splash damage (pun not intended) and works really well to clear out positions, even elevated positions like the upper ship areas on whatever the ship breaker map is. It does super well against other basic transports and just wrecks the occupants. It does surprisingly well against unobservant armor as well.

So I didn't realize this until this last game, but Irish has a 2nd special gadget that shoots down incoming grenades and missles. Hold the button for the deployable shield and it will switch to it. As far as I can tell, he is the only specialist besides Sundance with her grenades that has multiple special gadgets. I've started placing one by my deployable shield to keep it from getting rocketed.

Here's another weird thing. So I've been trying out Portal and it really is a pile of fun compared to the main game.

With the BF3 content though, if you dig down in the armory all the guns have BF3 attachments available. Sights, underbarrels, etc... However, as far as I can tell there's no way to actually equip them in-game because BF3 mode doesn't have the T menu to change your attachments on the fly and there doesn't seem to be a way change attachments before spawning anymore.

Why do people say there isn't a scoreboard? On PS5 you just hold (don't press) Options and there it is.

You also very much can spawn in non-squad vehicles. But maybe that's just air? I could have sworn I've spawned in other squad's tanks.

comedyblissoption
Mar 15, 2006

If you aren't using them, spawn beacons are really important to have long drawn out fights at a point and to cut down on map traversal.

If you die or get a loadout crate, you can use another item besides the beacon. As long as the beacon-placer does not spawn on the beacon, the beacon will remain.

Gunning that big helicopter is a blast is you have a pilot you are working with. The gun feels absolutely brutal visually but it's impossible to hit anything with a pub pilot and even if you have an ok pilot it takes some getting used to. Once you get the hang of it, it's devastating though. We must have killed 25 guys and a tank in about 10 minutes. And almost no one is running anti air right now.

life is short - play hard
I read a theory in the bf2042 Reddit where someone listed several hints that strongly lead to the conclusion that this was planned as a Battle Royal game. But abandoned in the middle of development, but they did not start from zero again, so there is some stuff left:

- Huge maps (too big for normal BF gameplay, even for 128 players)
- Armor plates
- Cannot switch/create squads
- Silly long timing when you're downed with no visibility for medics, because initially it should be only your BR squad that can revive you
- The + system for weapons, instead of ground loot attachments
- No server browser, because you don't need one in BR
- Lack of game modes
- No hardcore
- No propper factions
- No scoreboard
- No campaign

So they made BF2042 out of it but there are many design choices that I could not unsee after reading this.
It at least makes sense here and there and backs the theory.

The armor plates are a pretty big giveaway tbh. If you equip them you start with 0 armor and 2 plates that an only be used on you. A sector in hourglass also makes a lot more sense if you were playing a BR.

The problem with that theory is half those points were true for Battlefield V launch.
With how badly firestorm did, I really don't think they were making another BR.

I do think a lot of decisions came from hard zone though and a lot of people think that type of game (fps raid /tarkov clone) is the next big thing.
