Looks good, but lovely timing. Then again HBO is filming The Last of Us right now with Game of Thrones final season-level budget, so alas.

So I did end up going and reading this and it was very good. Just completely different from what I expected. Spoilers for those that don't care.

While yes there is a huge world killing plague - the book is really about just people's intertwining lives. Folks that were old when the apocalypse came, those that were young... some that were born into it. It's a very chill book about relationships and trying to find meaning. There is some very minor conflict with a prophet (that I'm assuming will get wildly amplified for a TV show to create drama) but ultimately it's just a very beautiful book. Very quick read, would recommend.

This shit's about to go off.
I don't much care for McKay's movies but I do like the idea of using a bigass comet as a metaphor for climate change. The trailer does nail the laughing off and easy denial of an existential threat that we're experiencing right now. That said I don't think the movie looks great and I probably won't see it.

I hadn't watched the Don't Look Up trailer, just thinking it was another underwhelming Netflick, so I immediately thought you were talking about the other big rear end comet movie posted in this thread.

I'm working on this and we're leaning away from the pandemic very intentionally

It's in the five-hole!

This feels like a weird black comedy with all the black seeped out of it, it should be funny all these people are denying the apocalypse, but I just went “yep, that seems about right” completely deadpan. I’m not sure what’s lacking, some kind of edge or horror to it?

Good! I mean even without COVID the book didn't really harp on it and I was worried it might be treated like disaster porn in an adaptation.

I feel like Bo Burnham's Inside was the only pandemic-related content I needed to see and will probably be the last time I enjoy anything else on the subject.

That said for sure geniuses are furiously penning stories about the situation now that the PTSD is subsiding a little.

Not just a bad trailer, a trailer that makes me reconsider going to a theater to see the movie.

I mean seriously, it shows the whole movie, and features the same 3rd act that every marvel movie now features.

i think the main takeaway is that we're just doing all actors aside from the main characters in vfx now

it looks very expensive and very cheap at the same time? but i imagine a lot of people don't have an issue with deepfake stuff. i wonder if the guy disney hired for his deepfakes worked on this

As someone who actually enjoys the MCU for what it is, I’m very disappointed where they took this spider man story. Homecoming was promising but just like every previous attempt at Spiderman it’s gotten completely out of control and overstuffed. Didn’t care for Far From Home and this looks like more of that.

practical effects are being phased out wherever possible because cgi work is nonunion. anything disney can offload to effects, makeup, costumes, prosthetics, whatever, they will

yeah it looks like a lot of cheap character effects and an uninteresting overstuffed plot

this should be great and it wont be

Honestly the only thing the movie has going for it is the apparent hook of the villains are all fated to die and Spidey is now trying to send them back AND save them from dying at the same time, going against Strange even to achieve this

That was pretty intense, huh?

Prominent filmmaker Ridley Scott is right, as per usual: a very poo poo script. Lol at the premise, and that scooby-do line shouldn't be in the movie.

I was off the bandwagon when they made Peter a Tony Stark fanboy. As if Spider-Man needs lame rear end Iron Man to make him legitimate in a movie. I just watch and enjoy the show with no investment at this point. This seems to be the first time we'll finally be free of that albatross..which has monkey pawed into now having the MCU albatross on Spidey.

Yeah it’s extremely annoying that as soon as Iron Man was gone, they weighed him down with all this multiverse nonsense
