What I'm getting at is...
Do you feel the same way?
what was the challenge? tough bosses done solo?

Eraflure

Beat the game solo, ironman, highest difficulty, on a RL timer (as in no pause allowed during fights, can still beat the game in as many sessions as you like) + strict IG timer with an uncontrollable permanent escort mission, permadeath, permanent fog of war, equipment degradation, random bullshit buffs sprinkled on top of every animal you fight, you don't get your HP/spells/resources back after each fight like you usually would and your food spoils after a while. Of course, you also have to kill every single boss, including the megabosses.
Oh, and every numerical value in the game is replaced with "???", including previously mentioned IG timer.

So it's a thing.

This one was special, as well: the first 12 people to complete the challenge get immortalized on a plaque, and 11 spots had already been taken. Everyone who'd done it so far had used one or both of two specific subclasses out of 60 or so available to choose from. Sawyer issued a challenge for the final plaque to use neither of those subclasses:

What does this mean?

I haven't played Deadfire because I want to use my PoE1 save, whenever that gets completed.

Main game needs to be beaten in a certain amount in game days. A little girl follows you around the whole game and she can't die.

As said above, you have to protect a certain little girl. It makes more sense if you make a specific choice during a PoE1 quest.
Also, Deadfire is amazing and I highly recommend you play it eventually. Keep in mind the horrible stuff in my previous post is entirely optional and the overall game and difficulty balance is particularly good, so don't feel discouraged by any of it.

Absolutely plan to play Deadfire. I went back to PoE1 because I started Deadfire, realized how much I like the second game and wanted to have the continuity. I have a PoE1 save to finish that got to Twin Elms after finishing all of the DLCs and the Endless Paths. May drop difficulty from Hard to Normal or lower and power through the ending after my current BG trilogy obsession is done.

I haven't revisited BG since the early 2000's when I finished BG2. I fired it up a couple of times, but never really got back into it. The SCS mod has drawn me right back in - it makes the combat fun, challenging and relevant. Does it through organic means too, by actually improving the AI and letting it use all the systems the player has access to.

The viva new vegas guide got really cut down a while back right? I'm thinking of getting modded up again, but last time I used that guide it took forever and I was interested to hear it had been made less of a time sink

Yeah, it removed most of the excess mods and is more focused on a Vanilla+ experience.

I got a new PC, which means at some point I'm going to install New Vegas on it. On my previous machine, things were kind of a mess; I had an old version of FOMM that crashed every time I used it and a whole bunch of piecemeal bugfixes and guns I thought were cool (guns added/removed based on my changing opinion of their coolness.) Now I guess there's some now mod manager everyone uses instead? Is there a preferred unofficial patch, and if so, does it have a changelog to show what bugs it addresses? Just so I know if I need to go track down any of my old ridiculously specific little band-aids (making GRA weapons do the same damage as vanilla ones with the Grunt perk, poo poo like that.)

YUP is the preferred unofficial patch; I think it's still being updated to this day so there's way too many fixes for changelogs to be useful unless you look for something specific. It sells itself on very specifically only fixing bugs, not making changes based on what someone's preference might be or even what might be sensible. If the developers meant to put it there and it's working as they intended then YUP leaves it alone.

Oh, if you haven't played in a long time there's also a mod limit remover so you can install over 150 mods now, and it also makes the game run better as a side effect

Does YUP restore all the stuff they had to remove from the base game to get consoles to run the DLC? Because if not I'd probably recommend one that does. None of it was removed for creative reasons but the world is very empty without it.

Uncut Wasteland adds in a lot of the geometry that was removed for console memory savings. New Vegas Uncut is the series that reintroduces cut dialogue and characters.

Both of these can be loaded after YUP.

I highly recommend checking out Viva New Vegas, it's a lightweight but thorough modding guide that tells you exactly how to build a stable and well-performing FNV setup that's up to date on current modding practices. This includes telling you how to use Mod Organizer 2, which is a godsend of a mod manager. The guide is modular, so you can choose to opt out of the latter sections if you don't care for what they add (gameplay changes and overhauls).

That would be Uncut Wasteland, which is entirely compatible with YUP, there's no reason not to grab both.

Make sure to at the very least go through the Utilites and Bug Fixes sections of Viva New Vegas, there are a lot of fixes and stability improvements that aren't included in YUP.

MO2 can seem like a lot to figure out, but once you understand it you will realize how much better it is than FOMM. Especially if you find yourself adding/removing mods often.

You should really consider The Living Wasteland, or something like that. Adds little caravans that travel around, adds little settlements here and there, makes the Mojave feel a bit more alive. Also the settlements and caravans change over time based on your actions. Goes great with Uncut.

unpopular opinion i guess but honestly, just use vortex. if you're half the ADHD idiot I am you'll have much less trouble and the mistakes you do make will be much more easily correctable.

Don't use Vortex. Even a relatively modding illiterate fool like me can run Mod Organizer 2 and somewhere in Viva New Vegas it has a good basic guide. If you follow the step-by-step and run the built in LOOT, you probably won't have any issues.

If this were the Morrowind thread, I would agree with you.

My first experience with MO2 was using it with New Vegas and I actually found it rather irritating, compared to Nexus Mod Manager and hand installs, because once I'd loaded mods through MO2 I had to always launch through MO2, which I hadn't realized at first.

Actually using it from the start of the process, I think when I next played Skyrim, got me to like it.

Update: Followed the VNV guide, but with nothing but YUP, the weapon mesh fix, and jsawyer for gameplay mods. Worked perfectly for 4-5 hours until I went to quit the game, whereupon it locked up so hard the only thing I could do was restart my computer.

I've had that buy my solution was to sign out and sign back in so I didn't need a full restart.
