Doesn't Age of Calamity run at 15 fps tops?

EDIT: I'm sorry did I say 15? I meant 5. https://youtu.be/LkO1hRJqJik

I remember being in one escort mission in DW3 where the officer I was escorting (Guan Yu, I think) was engaged in combat with someone I could not help them with (maybe Lu Bu or something), and he was holding his own really well only if he was loaded onto my screen. If I got too far from him, his model would despawn and he would be on the verge of death. I'd load him back in, and half his health had vanished.

does DW9E have the exact same combat as 9 or is it tweaked a bit? I never played 9 but this demo feels pretty good even if I don't know what I'm doing since I cant read anything :v:

a lot of it's the character choices tbh. People were hoping for a big, almost smash brothers celebration of koei and tecmo characters, and it ended up being (for most westerners) warriors orochi with maybe 10ish interesting older characters. In retrospect a lot of it was unrealistic expectations, but when the roster list was released there was a lot of "that's it?".

Policenaut posted:

It has super boring map design, where it's randomly generated battles most of the time. You'll never really get the set pieces that the main games usually have.

And there's just a lot of characters who are very annoying to fight when they're in their super mode, especially on harder difficulties.

I probably had other complaints, but it's been ages since I played it, and I have no real temptation to touch it again.

EDIT: Finding my old post, and vaguely remembering darkness covering the map, yeah gently caress that system.

I hated the structure where you picked a character did like four or five maps then you hit credits, if you wanted to do the other story maps or try and figure out how to get the real ending you had to start a new game with the character and play the intro map all over again.

I recently got Ps Now to kill some time and wanted to get some opinions. Which Warriors game is the most fun out of these: Dynasty Warriors 7 Xtreme Legends, Dynasty Warriors 8 XL, or Samurai Warriors 4?

I have no real preference because I like any Warriors game but wondering which one would be considered “the best” of the 3.

Also, is DW: Strikeforce any good?

Bo Jackson done right would be a great in a Musuo game. The dude was a multi-talented super athlete and this is the series about gross exaggeration and animeifying things. Literally imagining a musuo attack that is a 100 yard charge through mooks. Plus a modern-ish man in this bizarre world could be a fun story telling device.

Sadly it was always destined to be a meme because Vincent Edward "Bo" Jackson is a real person who has likeness rights. Zhao Yun, who has been dead for over 1,700 years, does not. It could absolutely be done, but I don't think KOEI has the will to do something that off the wall.

Yeah... the allied commander would invariably have lovely morale before long, because allied units usually had lovely morale to begin with and would start dropping like flies the moment skirmishes broke out. Never mind that there's some officer (i.e. you) absolutely crushing enemy forces on one side of the field; the loss of some generic guy and his twin has irreversibly broken the commander's spirit (or at least until you get 1000 kills, which is a gargantuan effort in PS2-era games). This is such an issue on tougher missions that the only real way to win at DW3XL on Very Hard is to babysit the commander at all times. Or better yet, be the commander! :v:

I have no idea at all about Strikeforce but DW8XL is still providing my go-to when I want a general fix for Musou action. Even after some 7+ years I can still end up getting lost in it for a couple of hours at a time. The DLC map packs are also perfect for when you just want some ludicrous battles where it's you vs the world, too.

You could have probably gotten away with a generic looking football guy that looks kinda sorta like Bo and called him "Sportsman" or something. I really wanted some kind of Tecmo Super Bowl in Allstars to the point that I looked up the Katakana for Bo Jackson and Tecmo Super Bowl and filled my suggestion box in the original Japanese "who do you want?" I heard DW9 had good online coop even though the game was a bit iffy.

What would you all say is the best option for online coop musou? PS4 or PC

Or would I be better off with Vermintide 2?

Vermintide 2 would have a decent chance of being the right choice almost regardless of where you were asking it- if you've got folks to co-op with it's a pretty good time. Be sure to check to see which DLCs aren't a trap tho.

Really? I just kinda... assumed all the DLC maps were total scams. Which ones would you recommend?

NameHurtBrain
Jan 17, 2015
Dynasty Warirors 7 and 8 at least have overall good DLC options. IIRC 6 Empires had a bunch of free Create parts and free stuff is always good even if it's eh? It didn't really have DLC otherwise IIRC.

7 has the entirely of Dynasty Warriors 2 as DLC - and all of the levels are pretty fun ports partially because they're all tuned for maximum difficulty, and there's 5 games worth of new characters interrupting the usual cadence of officers/generic officers. Wu Zhang is kinda funny since most of Jin starts appearing at this point. So the Shu side is literally just slews of main characters - also making for primo grinding.

Usually every DLC pack contains the map, and 3 scenarios. One for each side, and one original scenario. Most maps are based on 2-5 maps. I forgot the cost, but they're all sub $5 per pack which is super worth it.

New weapons are also similarly cheap and for 7/8, are just new movesets.

The classic costume packs are cheap and basically added costumes from 3-6 with a few extras - Ling Tong has a 'DW4' costume where he basically has a mullet. Sure, why not.

The sketchy DLC imo, is the music DLC. It's pricier IIRC, Usually it isn't a big enough deal for me, and I kinda liked leaving nostalgia music rush for Empires games which usually have a massive catalog of past tracks. Then there's the weapon skin packs which are silly and IIRC, cost more than the new movesets. The completely original costume packs are more pricey, but I guess they're technically original content rather than old stuff rigged into a new engine.

My only real complaints is the stages don't carry forward to 8 despite it clearly being the same engine. Nothing carries over. Also they don't try to implement weapons that are clearly meant to be for a character with EX weapons - or even make said character proficiently with it. The Flame Sword, obviously meant for Sun Quan, is not usable well for him because Sun Quan's proficiencies are speed weapons which the Flame Sword is not.

Honestly it makes me realize Dynasty Warriors would be an ideal 'game as a platform' thing - I'm thinking the 2016 Hitman and it's sequels as a model. Slight new engine tweaks but can pay a small fee to bring old game into new game entirely.

Me and a friend had been occasionally joking with each other for *years* about a "Fire Emblem Warriors" before it actually happened. With both of us hating Fire Emblem Fates, we were both immensely disappointed to see literally half the cast flooded by Fates characters.

Even now, I feel like it may still be a game I'd enjoy, just... not something I'd be willing to pay full price for.
