Hi thread.

I played some Gauntlet IV and it sucks. I'm officially over my Gauntlet nostalgia.

Golden Axe also sucks. I hate when brawlers default to co-op as the norm. This is why Turtles in Time and Streets of Rage are so good among other things.

I also played a bit more of Broken Sword 5. I find it amusing that one of the puzzles requires you to know what a standard QWERTY keyboard looks like so you can convert Cyrillic characters, because I don't think that works. Still it's fun, even though the Vita port put in zero effort and is touchscreen only. Let me use buttons dammit.

Rinkles, that's good! I hope that works for you.

She said some stuff that maybe was supposed to be motivational but made me feel like crap. I noticed I didn't fully trust her, and it began to affect what I said, and I would dread appointments with her. She also was always late (once it was an hour) but never said anything about it, and ignored my request for phone calls in place of zoom despite agreeing to it (probably just forgot), but that's all secondary.

Gauntlet is only good in coop, so that makes sense. Gauntlet IV isn't really a fourth game so much as finally a real arcade perfect port of the first, plus a few added modes that aren't quite there. It's actually M2's first game.

Not sure why you mean by "default to co-op as the norm" ?

i wouldn't take the whole 'won't cause any issues or delays' as gospel though, from personal experience

I mean many brawlers up into the 90's were meant to be played co-op only. Take Golden Axe as an example. There are multiple encounters in the first stage where at least 3 enemies will come from 3 different directions at once with no way for a single player to counter them. The encounters are designed in such a way that a single player is almost guaranteed to lose at least 1 life before the end of stage and there's no way to prevent it. It's also of course the arcade grind at play, but some brawlers had a more balanced and varied encounter design which are much more enjoyable for a single player. Since I emulate these games on my Vita, co-op play isn't something I can do.

I figured I hsould actually get around to playing Link's Awakening before my PS5 arrives. I gotta find this key, the nightmare key, but I can't find it. I've searched every room of this dungeon that I can get into, no nightmare key. I have other keys, I've found like five keys and still have a couple left, but they don't work. Very frustrating.

Well here's an update then.

Pregnant black stray cat is not only not pregnant, she is also spayed.

Everybody else that saw her, including one of the vet techs, was like "huh, she looks pregnant" but the main vet checked and nope, just fat.

Considering her weight, her friendliness, her maladies (she has tapeworms that the vet treated her for and the vet gave us drops to help with her congestion/cold/whatever is going on that she's sniffling a bunch), and the location she was always returning to (under some wreckage), it's possible she either wandered off from her original owners and went too far and isn't sure how to get back or she might have been dumped by her owners. Either way, she isn't chipped, we didn't see a collar on her, and the neighbor who was originally feeding her mentioned that she just showed up one day and was hanging around with another cat that had already been on said neighbor's feeding schedule so that when that cat was fed, black cat would be able to get some food too.

We don't have a printer so I can't print any photos out to hang up but I'm gonna put up messages on a local facebook group and also see if I can talk to the neighbor who was feeding her and figure out how long ago this cat showed up. If their original owners are still around and looking for her, we'll do what we can to get her returned to them (unless they had dumped her in which case gently caress 'em), otherwise we'll just keep caring for her since it's not too hard on us to keep a guest room set aside for her.

The next big hurdle is figuring out what to do about all of the other cats. When we were going home from my doctor's appointment yesterday, we saw yet another orange cat a short distance from our home, except this one looked super ragged and roughed up, like imagine if someone mugged wilford brimley and also wilford brimley is an orange cat. I don't know if they're a stray or not but if they're not a stray, their owners could stand to care for their fur a bit more since it really does look like they got into a fight with a bottle of nair.

We know that there are still several cats living at the wrecked house. I want to see if there's a local TNR program. There's actually a really cute building nearby that, if I had massive amounts of gently caress-you-I'll-do-whatever-I-want money, I'd pay to convert into a little cat cafe kind of thing, if only to make sure the cats have a safe and warm enclosure to stay in instead of the dangerously deadly dilapidated debris down the street. At least a place with cleaner running water and steady food.

Firstaidkite, I also like reading about your cats. We had three cats and then someone gave us a box of two week old kittens. We bottle fed them every four hours, got them fixed, took them to the vet, tried to get them adopted out and now we have six cats. Two of the kittens (currently age 4 now) are snuggling with me while I laze in bed.

really enjoying, the 5th zone of endwalker where at the very beginning they give you an outfit to wear so you dont stand out too much and, 90% of the players walking around have decided to wear it.. thats dedication, to the world of ff14. and also im judging the other 10% that dont do it

I started out wearing it and then ditched it when I met Meteion. If other familiars can wear normal clothes and nobody bats an eyelash, I'm going to too.

I was briefly shocked when I saw kirby and thought videogames admitted something sucked

i agree though, been down that nostalgia trip and it's just not good enough anymore. but still somehow better than diablo 2/3 type games since you don't have to spamclick as much but there's something about that general perspective and the endlessness of despawning monsters that always wears itself out so fast.

Endwalker was really great and I still can't stop thinking about it. It's got some pretty wild pacing issues but poo poo, I like Persona 5, and even FFXIV has a hard time beating that one for pacing issues. Other than that it gave me everything I wanted and a whole lot more.

It kind of rules that Square Enix took the opportunity with FFXIV to essentially treat an MMORPG like a long-running serialized Final Fantasy TV series, complete with an actual series finale. Wonder if there'll be a time skip before the sequel series.

This is Brownie (Browny? Browney? Idk, we didn't name him so idk how the owners spell it).

This has audio
https://i.imgur.com/BQO7quV.mp4

Brownie technically belongs to the people across the street from us but they don't take him inside and the extent of the care seems to be putting out food for him and the kids across the street picking him up while he gets real mad because of how rough they're being. Usually he just ends up wandering around at all hours of the day and night, hiding under the porches of condemned houses with a few other strays when the snow or rain or wind is bad. Our neighbor next door will bring him inside to let him warm up and get comfy sometimes but he's a bit of a bully (unneutered male cat, very big on showing the other strays whose boss around here I guess). The rest of his time is usually spent relaxing on our next door neighbor's porch, our porch, or hiding under/behind bushes when the kids across the street are out and about.

Brownie likes to come into our apartment when we open the door, take 3 steps in, and then leave as he realizes "this is not my house." Brownie is the most common stray (though not technically a stray since he has an owner, he's very much a stray in spirit) and he has a habit of sneaking up on us. We'll turn away for just a moment and when we turn back around, Brownie has made his way to our porch and wants us to put some food out for him.

There is a similar-looking cat who has a similar relationship with their own owner, said cat's name is Ginger, and Ginger lives further down the street. Ginger is a neutered male and so Brownie will get up in his space and chase him off, but there seems to be some kind of understanding between Ginger and Brownie lately that if I am around, they need to escort me to my home so that I will give them food and pets and food. Brownie will hold off on the bullying of other strays to ensure my safe return from the horribly dangerous trek of "walking to the end of the street."
