Is there going to be a break and an end the current run of episodes before the 2nd part? This episode really feels like a convergence of all the lil groups of characters we've seen coming to a head at Bosse's castle

It's a fun little detail. In this land of manly men mostly concerned about strength, there likely wouldn't be any armor in her size. Hiling doesn't care though, just slap that poo poo on I'm going adventuring.

yesss this training stuff was one of the highlights this week. Bebin being so taken aback that Daida totally whiffs appraising Bojji, and Hokuro finding he needs to be his own Despa were both great gags/character bits. they also covered the exact thing i had been wondering about, Despa having spent this time playing along with what he reads as Bojji's intent while there is still a communication barrier to address down the line. looking forward to next week's climax, for once i find it hard to tell what exactly the plan is with these Underworld criminals. they have some strangely funny names between the contradictory color-named assassins, "Kingbo," and Sword King Kingsword. Hiling showing up with a crew of knights numbered 1-4(?) is a great background bit, but she should've thought to leave some numbers out for psychological warfare.

And related to that, the new opening (which I watched entirely too many times) may have given an interesting new wrinkle to the existing characters, because I'm reading some of the scenes correctly Miranjo seems to know the demon that Bosse made a deal with/appeared on his deathbed. There's a shot of young Miranjo frolicking in the woods with another child who has red skin and pointed ears, and literally two shots later the opening juxtaposes the same young Miranjo playing guess who with seemingly the same other child dissolving into a shot of adult Miranjo being held in the clawed grip of a much larger creature cast in silhouette. Given how tightly plotted the show has been I think that it's likely the same demon and given the strength of the opening and how on point it is surely the two of them must've had a connection at some point, maybe they still do. I wonder if Bosse was introduced to him by Miranjo? And given that now I'm even more curious as to why he pointed at Bojji when he appeared. Also, considering last episode and this opening Miranjo must've had a truly god-awful life to end up where she is.

And if we are pointing to ongoing setting mysteries, the shot of Kingbo's dad before he went off the deep end includes an examiner from the Ranking of Kings, which points once again what was said a long time ago that winning it apparently drives you insane… I gotta wonder if Ouken was formerlly ranked as the number one king and that's why he is like we see in the episode. Heck, maybe he still is ranked number one and after he's defeated by Bojji that title falls on Desha and he loses it and that's why he seems to be fighting Bojji in the trailer?

The show was a bolt from the goddamn blue, and it's already probably my anime of the year for 2022.

My theory right now is that Ouken is a former student of Despa's. Specifically, the exact student we heard about when Kage introduced Despa as "he turned an ordinary guy into one of the strongest ever". Hence why namedropping Ouken was enough to get Despa to come along.

The show was a bolt from the goddamn blue, and it's already probably my anime of the year for 2022.

Based on the OP, it is easy to assume that Miranjo and (crazy theory time!) the demon were children together. Bosse's village probably sprouted up on top of the demon's home (which is why there is a gate to the underworld under the castle), and while that brought Miranjo and the demon together, the village growth probably irreparably damaged his and/or Miranjo's families or something along those lines (classic human persecution of the "other"), causing them to go long game with the revenge trip. Demon using pact powers to give Bosse the strength he finally wanted while planting the seed to ultimately destroy his family with Miranjo acting as the intermediary.

As for the pointing, I think we're meant to assume that it was because Bojji's was whose strength the demon stole to fulfill the pact with Bosse. But, knowing this show, there's probably a confluence of reasons to it.

I hadn't thought of that, but that makes sense. It also would explain the aside Apeas has in the statue room where he says he can't sense any kind of strength or power from the bandit leader or from Ouken. The former might be because he's a schemer rather than a fighter, as seen from his opportunism in the throne room, but it would make sense talking about the latter if he fights similarly to Bojji. And we did see something like that when he attacked Kingbo, he immediately cut the dude's wrists and ankles to take them out of the fight and then stabbed him dozens of times without killing him.

Finally got around to watching this episode and I'm so glad Bojji is back! The new OP and ED are great. I love Milet, her song for Vinland Saga is a bop so hearing her again for my new favorite anime is a treat.

The new OP animation and scenes are fantastic. Love all the possibilities that are coming through in the different vingettes in terms of where the story can go.

Related to ep11 and the new OP possible that Miranjo befriending a demon made her village mutilate her?

Alright, here's my own theories re: Miranjo, Bosse, etc -

Miranjo's past as revealed in the deep place with Daida set her up as much more sympathetic - she seems to derive a lot from Osamu Tezuka's Dororo, which also has the theme of a parent sacrificing their child for power. It might be that she is a victim of another sacrifice in the same way Bojji was, and Bosse is trying to fight fire with fire.

My take is that Bosse's ultimate goal was for her benefit. I don't know the specific nature of their connection, whether he's enthralled, indebted to her, or if it's simply a promise he feels obligated to keep, but he certainly at least felt pity for her. It may even have been for her sake that he desired strength and sacrificed Bojji, rather than his own hubris. I don't think he intended to resurrect himself, but he isn't surprised that he has been, and he seems well aware of Miranjo's capabilities and the lengths she is prepared to go, and he's along for the ride. His goal was either her redemption, resurrection, or restoration, and he has accepted the horrifically high cost to do so.

I'm also going to speculate that Bojji being deaf/mute may also be tied to Miranjo - the capacity to speak and hear might have been transferred to her host mirror, as that is the only way that she's capable of interacting with the world.

Also, like everyone else I love Hiling, but isn't the part of the first episode where she rags on Bojji being unfit to be king totally out of character, given what they show in the flashbacks?

I think Hilling has been shown to think that Bojji is not fit to be King of a country but should still be loved and protected by his family. So making Daida ruler but NOT wanting to exile/assassinate Bojji is where she ends up on the "coup" spectrum.

That being said, Hillings characterization in the first episode is unnecessarily harsh, but may just be a product of "early character traits" that end up being smoothed off, like Bakugo being a huge prick.
