I was talking to a women today who works at a clinic for people who practice dangerous sex (she used a different word than dangerous and it was far more
appropriate but I can�t think of it right now) and I asked her what that meant and she said it was like people who had intellectual disabilities and for some of those people if it feels good they chase it and don�t have a concept of someone else�s lack of consent, and all sorts of other grey area stuff, gently caress it must be challenging. people who follow young kids thru malls and brush up against them or use child porn. or people raised without concepts of consent and having to be re-educated. I really admire people who do that hard work coz drat it must take a special kind of person to do what they can to maintain non judgement while also protecting vulnerable people but trying to help everyone and treat everyone with respect despite their actions.

being a specialized therapist at a clinic that works with people with those extreme mental health issues sounds daunting. regular psych folks handle some of those cases, so it takes a lot to specialize as the person they can send difficult and specific ones to

there's some degree of professional detachment, but I know I couldn't work up the resiliency to handle that kind of work even occasionally

While this must really gently caress with the therapists I do see the allure in protecting potential future victims. That being said it must be rough looking at the world through the lens that these specialists must see everything through. Kind of like how a virologist or oncologist tends to see everything as a symptom of their specialty.

between the work and perceiving it in the world at large, it must have an incredible level of burnout and disillusionment

. but yeah, there's the possibility of breaking abuse cycles and preventing further victims that must be a big motivating factor to practitioners
