AEW absolutely needs the rumble. The card suit thing just doesn't work. One person at a time. How can WWE Copyright a match type? No way that holds up in court

They basically do one person at a time now; at this point the suits feel like they're just a way to cut down on the gap between entries so the match can fit into a normal PPV

No way that holds up in court MLW already does a Rumble called Battle Riot. TNA also did them and called them Gauntlets. I think TK probably just wants to carve out their own stuff instead of looking like they're copying WWE, but I agree the Rumble format is something everyone should steal.

My only gripe with the casino battle royale format is that the placement of the joker should also be randomized so as to not be so predictable. Like have the Joker come third, maybe even second.

They should just allow pinfalls and submissions to make it off-brand, like Aztec Warfare or New Japan Rambo. DG has a two at a time entry format too, which would be cool in AEW if they wanted more than 30 people in it, because otherwise it would be pretty short. The card suits would work if we know who was actually in each group. But as it is, when Clubs or whatever comes up on the screen, everyone's just like "Oh. OK, what does that mean?" It'd be fun to do it by faction, or if suit leaders recruited people to their teams.

I think they could fix the suits "problem" by not having a graphic that treats it like it's a big reveal. It's fine that it means nothing! Just do Diamonds->Clubs->Hearts->Spades->Joker every year

having rewatched what i think the first casino battle royal that one is definitely a bad casino battle royal. lot a of guys trying to do their spots while others are in there also doing their spots so the camera is missing thing, like joey janela getting a lit cigarette stapled to his head by jimmy havoc. I think I liked the Tag Team Casino Battle Royal the most though, but that's because it felt like a normal royal rumble but with tag teams.

I'm generally pretty satisfied if a Rumble has a good winner/closing spot so I was perfectly happy with the CBR from DoN 2021 (especially that loving turnbuckle swing Jungle Boy did and the validation of Jungle Boy as someone they should build around) and the Women's CBR from All Out 2021.

The biggest issue with the Casino Battle Royale isn't even the suits layout, it's that it's a pure midcarder thing cause all the big names have got their own PPV matches. It's hard to get hype for a battle royale where the only big names are (men's 2021) Jungle Boy and Penta. Seriously, expand it to 36 and call it the Roulette Royale, chuck in all your top names and make it the major focus of the show and it would be absolute fire.

It really would be a good way to dip your toe in the waters of a PPV special event outside of the Big 4 if they have any interest in doing that. There are so many reasons a showcase AEW Rumble-style match would be great, especially the ability to draw in surprises from partner companies and the indies. Hell, do it around the same time as Mania and take advantage of all the people who are in America for that

I’ll admit to putting the unfair expectation on the Casino Battle Royale that I want it to be AEW’s Royal Rumble. It’s a different kind of spectacle entirely and I need to just enjoy it for what it is. I liked some of the ideas upthread. The CBR is good, but it feels like it’s a couple small tweaks away from greatness.

I keep thinking, it's a shame WWE has good big event match formats on lockdown. Mainly the rumble, but also Survivor Series elimination tags. I always liked having the little individual entrances spaced evenly in WWE rumbles and unrelated participants coming in as a group doesn't really do it for me, although I will say it makes for a snappier match respective to the actual in-ring action.Golden Bee posted:We should get an on-screen graphic of who each suit is, revealed as they come out.
