Also how many cishets lose their absolute poo poo when they are exposed to the wrong "gendered" product? It's because they've received goes against what they think matches their gender identity. I've told the stories on the forums many times before, but I used to work on a gift shop and parents would freak out if their kid wanted a toy they thought didn't match their gender. Boys getting yelled at for picking things that are pink, or purple, or sparkly. Girls being told that only boys like dinosaur or snake or spider toys, don't get the blue shirt, get the pink shirt. Adults bringing us a red shirt and asking if it's for boys or girls and when you say both they get huffy and annoyed. That's all gender identity poo poo. And it IS poo poo. gently caress off with it.

I do think about my gender all the time but a lot of it I think is because it comes up so often in the kinds of places I read online (which I'm almost never there for in particular). If it wasn't THE social issue just now I think I'd think about it about 10% as much as I do, and default onto the 'men and women can do the same things, gender norms are socially imposed and i am above them' attitude, which I picked up when I was around 14 from just thinking about it for myself and reading some old feminist books. It's created quite a mess in my head which I kind of keep to myself because I think culture is working out things which have nothing to do with me and I should kind of stay out of it. But it does have an effect that I think is loving me up a little bit, to view myself in ways I otherwise wouldn't (men are bad, therefore you are bad) and question things I probably shouldn't (maybe there are certain things that define being a woman?). roomtone fucked around with this message at 20:03 on Feb 3, 2022 |

I'm an old goff. Wearing makeup and jamming around in lace, leather and fun frocks is like, second nature, I've got to 50 and toned it down a little, although, to my regret it did take me a few months to start taking peoples pronouns seriously, this is weird looking back because while about half of the old crowd I used to hang out with were Gay/Bi/w/ever, after a decade or so, some of them had transitioned as MtoF. On an idividual level its easy to refer to and think of them as their chosen gender, pronouns and all, but some rando on the internet demanding I refer to them as x/y just meant I stopped talking to or referring to them.
