Man, this is a lot better than I was properly expecting it to be. Watchmen was loving awful so I was fully expecting this to be in the same big bucket as the marvel superhero shows or more star wars crap but it turns out if you give a guy like James Gunn the reins he makes some incredible stuff. Hell it's a treat to see Robert Patrick having work, even if he's still perpetually typecast as a villain. It's genuinely hard to not find at least something to like about every character they've introduced.

Felt really bad for the two cops there, oh my goodness. Their back and forth was really cute and the little reveal that she had feelings for him was made all the more bitter with Goff told him that.

Reading that spoiler guess there's no way that something like that doesn't happen.

The Watchmen show or the Snyder movie? I thought the show was pretty good. I'm hoping HBO taps someone to do Planetary, that'd be sweet.

That movie is.... not good. It really, really, really did not play to John Cena's strengths, which are that despite being a giant wall of muscle he's an incredibly weird and goofy dude.

I kind of liked the way the movie existed in a world of different physics. Pretty much every place the movie went would inevitably explode. Except. Except for the meth lab barn which is the place that in our real world would be the place most likely to randomly explode.

What were the details? Meanwhile I will note that he seems to have written most of Castlevania through 2021 so whatever happened doesn't seem to have stopped that.

Edit:^^^he was apparently trading mentorship in the comic industry with young women for sex. Not as bad as what Weinstien did but very close. The women didn't try to cancel him I don't think, they were more like "I agreed to it but it's still a bullshit deal at the end of the day"

From what I can tell it's not like Ellis was British Bill Cosby. I recall one of the last Bad Signals I got had him apologizing for actions he'd taken and otherwise moving to get therapy. It's also noteworthy that the SoManyOfUs group specifically do not want Ellis "cancelled" or harassed (and don't want themselves to be harassed either).

I listened to a few episodes of the behind the scenes podcast. It's kind of a lame summary of the episode then a quick interview with a cast member. The interviews are kinda lame, too. Don't really recommend.

But what's important is that they use a musical stinger in between each segment and it's the same music from this:

In all seriousness, they’re fantastic. The chemistry those two actors had was truly wonderful and they were the best antagonists on the show. Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock was also really good as Gordon’s partner.

Gotham’s take on the Joker and Bane was absolute dogshit, however.

Honestly the show. I know it's probably not the most popular take but I think it was a bit on the eyerolley side and kind of wasted the opportunity to tell a story about the world post comic book. There were some good episodes like the Looking Glass origin one, but I think the overall arc of the show really sucked for me. I know it probably got lots of accolades and praise but yeah the message they were pushing was a bit too heavy handed for my liking. Kinda felt like if they had a new idea they probably didn't need to couch it in an existing franchise and let it stand on its own.

The movie was okay, I reckon but it's been eons since I last saw it entirely. I can appreciate Snyder's attempt to do a 1:1 of the comic but that was a herculean task he wasn't going to complete

Yeah the movie is a bit of a slog, but I also don't know how they could have adapted the comic any better (aside from changing the ending :wtf: ) into a single movie. Only other option would be to do a 12 episode show at 1:1 with the comic issues so they could include all the text extra material and that pirate story. Hell I'd still watch that.

I mean Snyder in general glorifies all superheroes to godlike reverence even if it misses the entire point of a character. I think Watchmen was his first comic book flick but his later comic movies really hammer that home. I think Rorshach is more interesting than either interpretations of him and both pushed him in extreme ways, either as hero or villain

But yeah at the very least he tried to do a 1:1.but big emphasis on tried
