there's like no western coverage of what the US is actually doing in Syria most of the time.

it's either military produced photo ops

https://twitter.com/RojavaNetwork/status/1505969120570978313?s=20&t=GnwH7dhGMMwozUJWa9l4UA

or reports about convoys being protested

quote:

MONDAY, MARCH 21, 2022
Syrian Army blocks US convoy in oil-rich Hasakah province
THE Syrian Arab Army blocked a US convoy in the northern oil-rich Hasakah province on Sunday evening, accusing Washington of the continued plunder of the country’s natural resources.

At least six US armoured vehicles were prevented from passing through the villages of Qabr al-Saghir and Qabr al-Gharajeneh as locals took to the streets in angry protest.

They were joined by the Syrian Arab Army as rocks were hurled at the US forces while chanting slogans demanding an end to the occupation of Syria.

No casualties were reported in the latest confrontation with the occupying forces, which came days after a US convoy in the Rehiyeh al-Sawda and Tamna al-Rehiyeh villages was also blocked.

Was getting ready to argue with someone online about how sanctions are a form of violence, and found this article from 2000 about how depleted uranium and sanctions absolutely devastated Iraq and now I don't even care to argue with someone online for no reason

1/5 children born in southern Iraq in 1999 were born with birth defects. The number of children with cancer rose to 130,000 in 1997 from 32 in 1990.

It's not funny enough to go looking for, but the old days of Bitcoin, back when it was below $30, had an Islamic "bank" on the main forums that gave out loans and then meekly asked to be repaid while scammers ghosted them over and over again.

One Day I Will Return To Your Side.
big news, a big breakthrough deal agreeing to a two month ceasefire between KSA and the Houthis has been announced, the siege of Yemen is being lifted, the deal includes:-

- re-opening all ports and airports (especially Sanaa airport) under both sides to resume normal trade, shipping and travel purposes

- big prisoner transfers

-all military activity inside and outside the country to halt for two months with possible extension.

https://twitter.com/reuters/status/1509941215550230535?s=21&t=wXoWHV5Eyg4qKzgHMFxUSg

so in closing, KSA has lost the yemen war. the houthis are here to stay.

It seems like a key sign also that the Iranian-Saudi proxy war has finally cooled off. If the Saudis want to make OPEC unity a priority, it makes it a lot easier if they have more workable relations with the Iranians. Also, the Yemeni War clearly wasn't going their way despite all they have spent on it.

I guess the question is how durable this "pause" will be and if the emerging realignment in Middle Eastern relations will hold since it seems like Russia/China now pretty now have close if not workable relations with all the major powers.

The war could always resume after the ceasefire is over, but it's a huge win for the Houthis since now they can bring in food and medicine for the long haul, in addition to all the Iranian goodies they could get.

It looks like the oil depot attack in Jiddah was too humiliating for the Saudis to risk the Houthi doing another attack and stopping the F1 Grand Prix.

Not to mention the Dubai FIFA WC is coming too, so the UAE might likely want to keep hostilities at a minimum during that.

everybody’s committing atrocities in Ethiopia, except for the groups who have managed to stay out of it completely. the Tigrayans just seem to have a more sophisticated overseas outreach.

America’s approach to the war has been characterized by indecision. we want to support the government, but then the war was going badly so maybe we should wait and see. it’s pretty unusual for US foreign policy to not clearly pick a side like we have.
