Because of the heartbreaking panel near the beginning of Property of Hate, where the kid's mom halfway wakes up to say "I love you" confusedly (with the implication that she'll wake up a few hours later with a missing child and a fuzzy memory of that exchange), I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop with that comic being super depressing and sinister. Over time, it doesn't seem like it's actually going that way. I'm still curious I guess, and it's demonstrated enough skill that I have patience to see what it's going for.

By the way did I mention the anime of Ranking of Kings is freaking wonderful? Because it's freaking wonderful. I think I'll start working in gifs when relevant scenes come up in the manga because it's really interesting to see how the adaptation team chose to handle certain aspects.  Fun fact: In this scene he's whistling but since he can't hear he just sort of blows air. It's a really nice little touch. Its biggest weakness is that it's vague and seems to raise more questions than it answers. My concern is that the author won't give a good payoff for everything. But I really vibe with its Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz aesthetic. It's perhaps better taken as something poetic than a straightforward plot. I've posted around 50 pages of a total of 475. Fair warning: it doesn't get much more coherent than a girl in a strange world going on adventures with a mysterious TV guy, that you aren't sure is there to help or hurt her. It seems he needs her for his own selfish ends and is willing to sacrifice her for some greater good (saving the world?) but is slowly building a bond with her.
