Are Hella Supertones still the loud horn to get for tiny cars, or is there something better? I don't quite understand how the loud train horns work-- do these guys have separate air compressors that they've installed somewhere?

MetaJew posted:I posted in the Miata thread, but can we do a tiny derail of horn chat? Yeah, the train horns take a lot of air and space. I like the Wolo "Bad Boy" self-contained air horns ($40 @ Harbor Freight) for large volume in a small... well, volume, or a straight-up set of air horns if you have a little more space. As far as I know, the Hellas are still excellent as well, though I prefer the tone of a horned horn.

For horn chat, there's always the portable option (although these are truck horns, not train horns):

Problem with any 80s British Leyland product projects is finding one. We are talking about a company that instead of enlarging a tunnel between assembly and paint when cars got too big to fit through just loaded them up onto a transporter and drove them around the corner in the rain to be painted.

Just sad that the cost cutting made it mechanically plain compared to its competitors, and it was being built by the worst period of BL's time.

That car was a excellent design for it's time and sounded great with the V8, bought down by comically awful build quality and absolutely crippling cost cutting garbage. A lot of Britsh cars of the time were utter crap from breakfast to rear end in a top hat but the SD1 in actual competent hands would have been just amazing.
