Emergency confection port.

Today the Rays had a little girl with cancer throw the first pitch to Brett Phillips, her favorite player. She gave him a bracelet which he wore during the game. While they were doing the interview with her during the game, he hit his first dinger of the year into the C-ring. :unsmith:

https://twitter.com/RaysBaseball/status/1514035629302108168?s=20&t=nyJYRqhxGN0ceMs7HE9Knw

He finds out they were literally on-camera with her during the post-game interview and is trying really hard not to cry.

Man Brett Phillips seems like the nicest dude. He was also the guy who hit the ridiculous walkoff in G4 of the 2020 WS:

Fuck the DH
First of all, let's talk about the classy thing the Padres did, because I don't want it to get buried:
https://twitter.com/NBCSGiants/status/1514078987517149191

Now the less cool thing, which is getting mad about unwritten rules because someone stole a base when their team was ahead by 9, and then another person bunted to hit.
https://twitter.com/JomboyMedia/status/1514102141966815232

Two innings after this airing of grievances, the Giants would later hit a pair of homers off a position player pitching. Despite what the Giants broadcasters thought, the Skip seems cool with everything:

For the Padres part, Bob Melvin declined to say anything about this in his post-game interview.

That is definitely possible.

If you don't want a team to run up the score, either forfeit or play better. This isn't little league.

Baseball has no clock. There are no insurmountable leads, so either quit or accept that the other team is still playing the loving game.

Yeah I’ve been messing around with the API as well and got stuck at the Okta wall too, that endpoint (and screwing around with others) could be a huge help for some projects I’m working on, thanks!

Lord of Texas, if there is a way to get total access to the docs (or the ones for the NHL API, which I think was made by the same company?) I’d be very interested.

As the father of a girl about that girl's age (sidenote: cancer :smith: ) I can say with almost complete certainty that there is exactly one reason Brett Phillips is her favorite player and it has nothing to do with his baseball skills.

I watched some of the Guardians game yesterday, and the kind of pitches this dude can make solid contact on is ridiculous. In the zone, out of the zone, breaking ball, fastball, doesn't matter. He'll hit anything, it's nuts

He’s not very good but he’s extremely fun and a Postseason Hero and that’s what counts. I hope he has a good season. I think he’s a defensive wizard and that’s what the club values in an outfielder.

Phillips walk off happened when that kid was like 5 or 6 and he's an incredible goofball, why wouldn't that be a 7 year olds favorite player?

And if we're being honest, he's likely not going to be expensive to keep around so there's not much worry over Tampa unloading him

The Metrodome sucked rear end but was amazing atmosphere for playoff games with a full house. Also apparently the Twins got rid of a shitload of alternate uniforms this year and only have regular home white, home retro, road grays and blues this year. Weird.

As someone who worked in the Trop and had been to over a hundred games there, including last night, I can say that I love the Trop. It's unlike any of the other 10 or so parks I've been to, and I love quirky weirdness. I also grew up a 10 minute bike ride from it, so I'm very biased
