I tried Void Racer Extreme on Quest, and well, I don't think this kind of arcade racing games play well on VR. With this, I don't mean VR racing games have to be real life & simmy like Arsetto Corsa or Dirt Rally, they can be more arcade and more fictional affairs with grav bikes, etc, but even with fictional scifi vehicles, the feeling have to be there, fooling you in believing you are in a futuristic racing gravjet thingie in a real futuristic track. I'm thinking Redout as example of a game of this genre and with a decent feel in the controls of your ship, with slightly more nuance in how your use the yaw up/down in addition to left and right, unlike the super arcade Void Racer the movement and physics are so simple that you don't feel immersed in a real world, scifi or not scifi. In other words, this is another case of 'don't translate directly 2d game into VR games, it doesn't work that way'. Turin Turambar fucked around with this message at 13:10 on Apr 15, 2022 |

For people with Quest 2's, do you always try to buy games in the Quest store or do you mostly buy games outside of the Quest store and use PCVR? There's a few games I've been looking at (such as Synth Riders and Pistol Whip) that are in both stores, is there an advantage to one or the other (other than sale price)?

I need some help, I've got a Quest 2 that will just randomly enter sleep mode at any given moment. I get about an average of 10 minutes playing, and the suddenly the screen goes dark and I hear the tone of it entering sleep mode. If I push the button, it'll come back to a gray screen and attempt to start back up, and I'll usually get audio for a few seconds, and then it'll go dark again. It'll go away after taking the headset off and putting it back on a few times, and I can get (hopefully) another 10 minutes before I have to do this song and dance again. I'm just playing a game straight off the Oculus itself, nothing linked up to my PC or anything. I have already factory reset the fucker and lost all my mini golf collectibles, so no dice there. I know I'm on the latest updates. Am I missing anything?

Pcvr titles will almost always have better graphics and effects. There are usually videos showing PC vs quest side by side to help with that Outside of that, if a game depends on quick reaction times, running it over air link doesn’t help in that regard. There are also a handful of games that will give you the PC version when you buy the quest version and vice versa

I've got an index and a quest 2 and I buy everything I might wanna show to someone else on the quest 2 because of the portability. I'm also using it for teaching so I got some educational apps on there as well but most were free. Using virtual desktop I can play any of the pcvr stuff on the quest pretty flawlessly but the knuckles controllers are better and the index is more comfortable and maybe looks a little better.

Cosmonium High has been a lot of fun but hoo boy is it starting to get repetitive, I need to take a break now that I can play in longer than 10 minute chunks. I'm not even halfway

Origami Dali posted:Also, if you have a padded face insert, it can cover the sensor and blank out the screen if it gets smushed down too much. Covering the sensor says its on your face and keeps it on. This isn't correct. Whats happening is lights hitting it, and its acting like its not on your face anymore. The gap in your pad is doing that if you're having that issue. Solution. Tape the light sensor. Its loving pointless anyways. (Every VR headset I own has them taped. Content creation + Headsets going to sleep sucks rear end butt)

You're complaining about a literal feature of stand by.

From the beginning the Quest has had a bad habit of draining all its battery randomly if it's not always plugged in and it's amazing that this is still a big problem with the Quest 2

I dunno about any of them being a bad choice, I guess it depends on what kind of gimmick you want. Tons of melee weapons are the same, essentially skins, but then there's poison kunai or other unique effects. I pick up a pack every time they go on deep discount. Fun to mess around but hardly necessary.

Well I guess I'm one of the forum's resident WMR fanboys now. Have had a Lenovo Explorer for a while now and also picked up a HP Reverb G2 recently. Reverb seems pretty good though. Having the spacer for glasses is pretty nice. The WMR tracking is still as average as it ever was, but I don't really have any good spaces for Lighthouse style trackers in my house otherwise I'd just say gently caress it and get an Index. Having a lot of fun catching up on newer poo poo I've missed like Boneworks and Pistol Whip though. H3VR is as good as it ever was. Some stuff I missed the past days Walkabout new update soon (giving the timing of the update, I'm sure it will appear on the Meta Gaming Showcase) quote:irst up is courses! With the licensed courses, our main goal is to make something that fans will love, but is also something that people can enjoy even if they’ve never seen Labyrinth or Myst. We’ve also decided to keep the pricing of those at the same $2.99 and the guest pass option to encourage everyone to try them out. But as fun as those licensed courses are, we’re also still very focused on originals. We've got several more DLC courses coming to you this year including more from the Lost Cities series, launching a new series of DLCs, stand-alone courses, and implementing many of the features you all have been wanting. FilthyImp posted:Iirc Archers (especially Long Bowmen) were pretty resource intensive compared to a regular soldier. They also had hosed up musculature/skeletons due to how much they overtrained their arm. Crossbows were generally the go to for many countries because you can train a peasant to fire a crossbow in an afternoon and that dude can kill a Knight on horseback who took years of training and a lot of gold to equip. Longbows were really first used en masse in the middle ages by the Welsh against the English because they had a lot of hunters and that was the weapon they had. It was fast and powerful but obviously required a lot of use and practice for the technique and swole arms. That's why then the English co-opted it and made it mandatory for people to practice all the time and paid archers very well. I think a traditional longbow used in a war had a draw weight of like 100lbs or something. For comparison a modern longbow has a draw weight of up to 60lbs and a modern compound bow is 40-80lbs draw thanks to all the pullies and stuff. It's one of the reasons firing bows in VR is weird because there's no force you're pulling back and you can't feel the arrow against the bow.

Well my standout of newer VR games so far is Space Docker VR. Took me a few minutes to understand the controls and it's still a bit hard without actual HOTAS feedback but the actual gameplay is pretty compelling overall. Trying to deal with proper physics and momentum in space is an experience, to say the least. Glad to see Zero Caliber added more of a story, it's generic as gently caress but sometimes you just wanna shoot dudes in VR.
