Pretty clear result in the French election, polls were kinda-sorta margin-ish of ~6 points, but:

Basically Macron's a gently caress, but not enough of a gently caress to make them to go hard-right.

Same election, but it was never really close. 66-34 in 2017, versus 58-42 now.

Though this is somewhat annoying, we may be in a near-permanent era where winning politicians will still have extremely-negative approval ratings, possibly because the other side nominates worse. Or we're all hosed. Either-or :v:

Also, continue on with technocratic liberalism because winning this election means you don't have to change anything.

Biggest problem in this vein is winning these elections and never fixing the conditions that allow them to slink out of those crevices. Humanity sucks so barring the digital singularity this part of us will always be around. Fixing poo poo in society so they don't have fertile soil to breed in is about the only long(ish) term solution. The current approach seems to be looking at the phrase "You have to win every single time. We just have to get lucky once" and thinking "Yep, we won this time. Problem solved."

Yeah, :thejoke:.

Every time liberalism/progressivism "wins" the assumption seems to be "oh hey, now we get a chance to 'fix everything.'" Except...the world actively fights against being fixed because fixing things costs money and puts people who are employed to keep things broken out of work.

Populism only works when you're given the reins for a generation or two, so an entire new subset of your population has known nothing but *your* way of doing things. Remind me again the last time a multi-term democratic president succeeded another multi-term democratic president? Oh, right, Roosevelt>Truman. It would take a minimum of 16 years of *competent*, mostly uncorrupted leadership in all branches to even make a dent in just *America's* problems and lack of social and societal progress. The GOP might not have any new or good ideas...but they certainly know how to prevent the Democratic party from ever gaining a foothold in the collective American conscience, and they've managed to *permanently poison* ~40% of the American population to *resent* socialist ideals as a threat to their own financial and mental security.

They'll get the remaining 10-15% they need when the middle class starts going hungry and the grocery store shelves are perpetually barren and the only way to procure food is to buy it on the black market or line up at 2:30am at the grocery store for the *chance* of getting something off a truck that might or might not come.

Well if he forgives them then, that will still be fresh in voters minds in November. I only have about 5K left on mine but I still hope they get cancelled.

Extended to 8/31. I think they are trying to make it a permanent extension at this point but its mostly about buying time while they figure out a way for forgiveness.

They're going to extend it until republicans win without actually cancelling it, because cancelling it would help them actually win while making their donors angry and they don't want that.

President doesn't have power to cancel but they have been working on increasing forgiveness as much as possible, as well as using the extensions. Canceling is with the legiature and Dems barely control the senate.
