Honestly I'm just upset they had an "Emergency Combat Hologram" and didn't bring in Robert Picardo for the role

I approve of this. He didn't gently caress up the opening monologue, the ship looks great, the theme music works for me, and overall it gives the impression that they're leaning into the "big weird space adventures" thing, which is exactly what they should be doing.

Of course, we've seen almost nothing and there are plenty of ways this whole thing could crash and burn horribly. But so far... I like what I see.

The more you kick against the pricks, the more you suffer.
I like that now it's canon that Pike and Picard used "to go where no one has gone before" and it makes Kirk's "where no man has gone before" line look like a temporary and local change indicating a hostile work environment.

One thing Trek has a long time been missing is that Federation space installations should basically be marvels, so that little shot of the Enterprise flying by Starbase 01 which now has nature domes, thumbs up

While I enjoy that the intro is a return to the "orchestral music + shots of the ship flying around," I think it's become a tired cliche to awkwardly jam in the original theme somewhere when it doesn't mesh with the new melody at all.
Lost in Space and Picard did it and I am not a fan.

EDIT: Speaking of the new song as well, I think it's just a generic noodling about of notes, nothing special. For as much as I despise Picard, I admit that its main theme is really great (and in a better show would be making me emotional every time it gets used in a scene).

I'm rewatching Voyager right now, and just saw Heroes and Demons the other day. Having Robert Picardo pop up in his oldschool medical outfit holding a sword would've been perfect. Doubly so if it was the tiny version of him.

No, no, no. You see, there's going to be a series set between SNW and TOS where an all-woman crew travels to every planet that Kirk eventually visits.

Archer also used "no man", so I guess there's been a bit of back-and-forth.

Clearly Seven was rejected from Starfleet as part of some weird test, like when they have you kill Geordi or do the Kobayashi Maru. The idea was that they reject her, she comes back with renewed fervor about joining, they let her in, but Seven just took the rejection at face value and decided to join the space scouts or whatever the gently caress

I'll help: I thought it was deeply underwhelming, between keeping the Discoprise, the generic soft tune with no punch and the weirdly hyperdetailed space environs everywhere. I still don't see what's so great to look forward to.

Also at the end, going to warp INSIDE a star system? (To take a quote from a DS9 episode that never really earns that line because it doesn't make sense with what we've seen throughout the various series.)

All in all I like it like most people here seem to.

That quote just makes me think of that TNG episode where the Enterprise drops out of warp directly above a planet for 1 second to transport and then jumps back to high warp immediately before the transport is fully done to not waste any time going somewhere else lol.

You are an odd fellow, but I must say... you throw a swell shindig.

I am oddly non-excited by SNW. Kinda feels like a step backwards to appease people whose brains have been broken by the franchise trying new things. Depends on the stories they tell, though.

Intro was pretty if sort of boring. Come on, it’s the sixties throwback, get in my face a little.

While I actually really like Enterprise and think Voyager is perfectly ok, I still agree with your take on the intro. However added Faith of the Heart did get me to at least chuckle with how well it synced.

It won't even appease people like me, because the ship is wrong, the interiors are wrong, we don't want a prequel retreading TOS, which we actually like, we want something new that doesn't depend on legacy characters. (Set after TNG, ignore the Romulan poo poo, give me TNGNG)
