idk what it's like now but my high school career counselors just recommended everyone join the military, even if they'd been accepted to UCLA or whatever. "oh you have 1400 on the SAT, a 3.8 GPA and have already been accepted to Stanford? Thats fantastic, sounds like you'd be a great fit for todays Air Force! Let me get you some forms."
