also in actual thread title news, new season starts with a live show on 3/9 (i think) and the GDA season 2 finale is tonight. I kind of get the feeling that Dave (spoilers for the final 3 episode arc, including tonight's) is still not quite satisfied with the format on account of how he's killing off all the characters in a grand battle royale to clear the slate, but i'm still entertained tbh. Also in a rare instance of justice in the universe, Hing's character was the first to die

Technically isn't he falling into an infinite void and not dead yet?

But overall I agree even though I think he's said it's not canon, though maybe it's not until they decide it is?

in his defense, people did spend like $1,500 USD to make that happen so he's kind of over a barrel there

Incredible Dave-ism in the latest Gribbits, where he reveals that he thinks a living person's bones are dead like fingernails and hair.

So your body, your skeleton's alive? But a skeleton becomes undead, so when is a skeleton dead? When it's not undead. That's why it's called a skeleton, I get it now!

It took me until halfway through the episode to realize that Demi was playing Freezo while Hing was out. Now i get why they used the blue picture (though technically i think freezo is possibly chinese at this point, but obviously you can't use that)

Bummer news in the stinger of this week's ep: Sounds like Edan's going away for a while, doing something or other in America for a time. Everyone says it's only temporary and he'll be back, so fingers crossed that's true

If you enjoy friend of the show Tom Walker, he did his stream anniversary awards show, with fan voted nominations of different clips from his streams. It's also among the funniest and most ambitious things I've seen on Twitch.

We can only hope for the addition of Emma Balfour Baston to the regular cast until his return.

And seconding that 8.10 was great. I'm glad they found new guest blood. I miss the variety they had in the first few seasons; in recent years it feels like they're mostly leaning on Tom, Demi, and Guy.

How is the quality? I remember back when the live at the comedy store videos were public, both video and audio quality was lacking. I'll probably get on the Patreon if they're a bit better nowadays.

It's fine. It's not critical role or anything but I didn't have any trouble hearing or seeing what was going on, and it's always fun to see the shenanigans that don't make the cut (if only to fully appreciate the work that the draggos cut out for hugh every month)

Also they didn't tell Tom about this, they planned it for when he's out of the country, and part of the deal is making Demi eat food that she's allergic to on camera for money so top marks all around

Catching up on the past couple months worth of podcasts and the draggos are in top form, just a shame Edan isn't there at the moment. Really been enjoying this season overall, the premise is just the right amount of absurd to let things flow kinda sorta naturally even with the usual bullshit everyone does to ruin Dave's plans, but still somehow manages to be fairly easy to grasp - at least the gist of things and the big picture. Grabbed the digital version of the cookbook too, looking forward to that coming out.

This batch of ads on FTAGH advertises a crypto podcast. Pretty embarrassing.

Insurrectionist
May 21, 2007
I'm pretty sure they use some kind of generic ad delivery service that matches your approximate IP location to serve ads for a local market. Half the ads I get are for my decidedly non-English-speaking country, the other half for some reason are Irish ads. Feel those really aren't getting their money's worth! I don't remember any crypto podcast or the like in last episode at least.

On BST.PNG, they pretty frequently give disclaimers before the cut to ads because whatever ad service Sanspants uses sometimes give them ads for the Australian armed forces and intelligence agencies. There were also apparently ads about going to a casino at, like, the height of coronavirus lockdowns. I'm not surprised some crypto poo poo getting though on some shows.

yea they've said they use an ad service and have said 'yea despite us very actively not checking poo poo like 'hate speech' as 'interested topics' we're gonna get some crook ads, sorry'. I imagine a podcast that's 90% 'imagine what grimace's cum look likes' or whatever they talk about when not trying to figure out if a dude asking for a woman to throw frozen chicken at his wall is a fetish thing or mental illness thing has a bit of trouble getting ads from anything but the big bundle services.

I'm only getting ads for Disney+ shows on Dragon Friends, BST and FTAGH on all podcasting platforms, which is both a blessing and a curse. No crook poo poo or casino ads, but having to hear about Andorr two-three times/episode won't make me watch it.

I'd love to hear the ad that Demi described as "do what you love! We can make it happen! In the Army!"

They actually let him keep it.
The season finale episodes were pretty amazing. Each family member brought their own chaotic energy, and I laughed pretty hard when Simon realized that his family wasn't there to see him.

For next season, I'm wondering if Tom will continue playing a character and if their recording schedule will let Edan return.

I think Dave mentioned on the discord that they're hoping to get Edan back for next year's holiday episode, since he's supposed to be back from the states by then, but I don't think we're getting him for the whole next season, unfortunately. They're actually recording what will be the next seasons' worth of podcast episodes as we speak (or maybe they're sleeping, i don't know time zones), they're doing a huge 3-day batch record at a beach house because Alex and Ben both have second kids on the way, and they're not going to have time to do the podcast like usual next year.

They also mentioned doing a quarterly live show, I think. Maybe we'll be blessed with an Edan visit for one of those, you never know

Insurrectionist

Man it's gonna be interesting to see how a batch-recorded DF works out. It's a pity they can't have it live in front of an audience of course, but after the Covid years we know they can still knock it out of the park. On one hand, they might all actually be able to follow the story properly now. On the other, I hope they don't get burnt out for the back half of the recordings.

Still haven't gotten around to listening past 8x14, really looking forward to catching up. The Stormwreck Isle episodes were fun too but I crave OG Dragonfriends.

If you want a preview of how things might go, they did do an 8-hour tomb of annihilation stream, and things got a little loopy well before the end (in a way that I found fun as a viewer though, so I'm hoping it breaks favorably again)
