I almost forgotten Hample was profiled in Sports Illustrated. In 2001. He was just as pathetic then.

Parts of Hample's guide when catching baseballs is the only thing you have in your life:

Sports Illustrated posted:

1. Are you using your head? You're leaning over the dugout roof, begging Ken Griffey Jr. for a ball, but you're wearing a Dodgers
hat! Griffey isn't tossing a ball to a Dodgers hat. That's why Zack brings the caps of both teams to each game. He calls players by their names, never "Hey, number 8!" He has even asked for balls in Spanish and Japanese and by signing. Plus, knowing players like to toss balls to kids, he raises his voice an octave when he asks.

quote:

2. Are you ready? No, you're slurping ice cream out of a little souvenir helmet! How are you going to leap for a ball with that on your lap? And always sit on the aisle, even if it's not your seat. That way you can sprint to a ball or away from a security guard. (Zack also brings an extra shirt, in case he needs it as a disguise if a guard is after him.)

quote:

5. Why are you sitting next to a six-foot guy with a mitt? He'll outreach you. "You need to look for a family fascinated by the JumboTron," Zack says, "or very old people."

Mookie Betts took Alcantara yard for his 30th dinger of the year. He’s only 2 shy of his career high, with four more days left in August.

On the day when the Blue Jays celebrated the 30th anniversary of their first World Series win, the Blue Jays made a convincing statement demonstrating their potential for a long post-season run by getting a whopping four (4) total base runners, two (2) hits and zero (0) runs.

I love Ichiro and I'm kinda starting to love the Mariners. If my Royals don't make major change this offseason (like jettisoning the Dayton Moore and refocusing the team on baseball instead of being a Christian cult) I may just start rooting for them instead.

Every single year the Ivy League takes a break from fucking up the world through its various alumni to fuck up everyone's bracket instead.
Acuña's out of the lineup again today even with yesterday off and an off-day tomorrow. Not exactly a lost season for him but it's pretty clear he was not rehabbed completely; Braves presumably felt their hands were tied back then because of Rosario's eye thing and the massive void of Ozuna (also prior to the emergence of Money Mike) but they've potentially endangered their franchise player in the process.

The Jays just were swept by a team which was 21 games under .500 before coming into Toronto (being outscored 22-3 and struggling to piece together 17 hits in three games total). They're not likely to be seeing anyone in the postseason, period.
