Hey I have an issue where I deleted some PMs on PC but they are still present in the app. Any way to get rid of them? I have a personal and embarrassing message sent to me by mistake, I’d like to get rid of it for the other person’s sake. The ending sentence “no one else ever has to know” is very very funny tho

When I added that I wasn’t sure if new bbcode ever got added so I was overly conservative. I’m gonna buy a Mac mini or something soon so I can get back to hacking on apps, so I’ll add the list of tags then if nobody beats me to it.

This may have been answered already, but how does one turn off auto-parsing URLs in the app? If someone wants to spoil a twitter link and prevent auto embed, they have to turn off the autoparsing otherwise it will still display. As far as I can find, there isn’t an easy option anywhere to disable it.

Hey I’m loving this app and have used it for a couple year now, since I switched to iPhone. Just ran into a thread that doesn’t work. I suspect there’s some problem with the huge number of YouTube embeds but I really don’t know for sure. https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3902122&perpage=40&noseen=1&pagenumber=1 Several of the pages of that thread will load for a bit, show a few posts, then reload, and repeat ad infinitum. iPhone 11 on IOS 15.7. Maybe once all the work around the theme is settled and I have the time to jump back in, we could revisit the idea of purging all settings on logout, even when it’s due to the cookie expiring. Not a massive deal but very counterintuitive.

I think the embed load async, but whatever they do really seems to beat the poo poo out of the webview’s UI thread, and I wouldn’t be surprised if having two dozen of them caused it to reach “kill me, save yourselves” levels of memory use.

But then I guess it’s pretty hopeless to get this to work on iPhone? Sounds like the dream scenario would be a “dynamic” renderer which stops following YouTube links and embeds when a thread starts to run big on memory. I’m a software dev, but I’m not into the Apple ecosystem at all so I guess it’s not that easy to just dive in and give it a shot. Ios16, Awful 6.1. In the PM list, the sender's name of the topmost PM of the view does not display. When a new message comes in, it has the problem and the now second-from-top message displays the sender properly. All other messages display the sender correctly.

Maybe asking Astral to remove the expiry (or make it shorter, but refreshed on every request) is easier than making settings save outside of login session in Awful. Logout purges the cache, which is everything. If you log out it has no data kept that was related to your login.

Even outside of cookie expiration I think it would be worthwhile to decouple the actions. Have a button to clear all user data and force a logout sure, but otherwise only dump the settings/data when logging in as a new user. Something like that, it’s been awhile since I’ve been in the code.
