I think I used to have a model Mercedes like that when I was a kid, not quite as detailed but still pretty fancy :(

Those definitely belong here. NSXs are always super cool and as a teen I daydreamed of things like the integra type r and gti-r but despite being tantalisingly close they were always just out of reach.

Unpopular opinion: wrong thread because I can't afford them (and I am angsty about people with more money than me speculating on cool cars that will never get driven).

Cool cars tho

Tell him about the blower!

That's a decent little diecast. I have a 1/18 '70 Olds 442 W-30 from Lane Exact Detail (which I believe is Acme, now) that has opening doors, hood, and trunk, spare tire and jack, working steering and suspension, spinning driveshaft, correct underhood stickers, battery cables, and fuel, coolant, and brake line plumbing. It's pretty nice. I got it on eBay when I found it for like $75 instead of the normal $120+ they were at the time. $200+ now for the vintage ones. Newer castings labelled Acme are still over $100.
Looks like "Danbury Mint" models are also actually made by Acme now, too.

edit: it's my one "expensive" diecast, because I have a '70 Cutlass, albeit not a 442, much less a W-31. The rest of my stuff is Ertl and Muscle Machines, etc.

What is under the center console of the new Corvette, if it's a mid engine rwd car

In a FR configuration that space would understandably be used for the transmission/driveline tunnel, just seems like a massive waste of space to me; interior sucks

Better than a GNX at least

$5 says that's where the batteries go for the hybrid version, similar to how they did in the Volt.

I also believe the gas models have two trunks because the front one will get used or at least encroached on by the front axle motor.

AW11 MR2s put the fuel tank and misc cooling plumbing through the center tunnel. Less likely to get crushed by an untrained tech that way.

The C8 has dual saddle style fuel tanks between the door and rear wheels, so I'm betting it's just coolant pipes for now, but yeah agree that's where batteries will go.

The "trans tunnel" is also a major part of the structure. You can eliminate it, but would need bigger stronger sills which are harder to climb in and out of for old Boomers with dickey knees. Also normal people.

Fiero's put the fuel tank there, and put the coolant pipes under the rocker panels where they were VERY likely to be crushed by an unfamiliar tech!

Today I learned that the LT6 in the upcoming Corvette Z06 is not an LS-based engine, and not only has DOHC, but a flat-plane crank. Somehow I had not previously learned that.

I guess GM feels it's finally wrung everything it can out of an overhead valve engine?

edit: 670 HP @ 8400 RPM/450 lb. ft. @ 6300. Naturally aspirated.

I think it's less "GM has done everything they can do with pushrods" and more "moving the Corvette upmarket while also leaving room for an even more powerful ZR1 model" requires a high-powered naturally aspirated build.
