I got a 3 handset home phone system that can connect to two cell phones via bluetooth so you can leave your phone on the counter and just use a home phone if someone calls you. It works great, I used it to help break my phone addiction. I don't use it anymore though.

Yeah Technmoan taught me that no good tape players are being made anywhere in the whole world right now, something about the mechanism or whatever. I don't understand it, I can't remember the specifics, but my gentle heart breaks every time I think about it. Thanks Technmoan!

Went down to the local thrift store, which had plenty to offer for friends of old tech. Could I interest you in: An over-the-shoulder video camera? A Beovision MX 3500 CRT? Or perhaps you'd prefer a portable TV? Or a microfiche reader, small tv or a betamax player? Or maybe a combination tape deck and turntable? How about a PowerMac 6800/66 with some kind of drawing digitizer on top? Or a pile of extremely early-noughts keyboards? They have D-pads!

i have that exact beovision in that color, although i use an mx6000 for actual gaming and keep the other one in the shed, haven't decided what to do with it yet. i wish my local store had that much old tech, it's usually just grandma clothes and board games

I would love having that microfiche reader, but can you readily find old microfiches, nowadays? Having a bunch of old newspaper fiches would own.

Okay, here's one. Only exists in the pre-FIDE unpatched 1800s tournament versions. Illegal move handling had an exploit. Specifically, on your turn, you could claim your opponent had made an illegal move on the immediately previous move. At that point, the arbiter would check, and if it was illegal, he'd give you your time back and penalize the opponent by a couple minutes. But if you made a move in response to the illegal move, it stood. So far, so good - keeps the game moving, and means you can punish your opponent screwing up a move if it gives an advantage. The problem was the 'on your turn' bit. That meant that, by the strict rules, you could get away with an illegal move as long as you cheated your way into checkmate. Because then the game is over. And your opponent doesn't have a turn to claim the illegal move on.

Assuming that this place is like the other flea markets I’ve been to here in , that isn’t really possible. Individuals rent a spot in the store and fill it with whatever crap they want. The store just sells it on their behalf. That’s why you see weird poo poo like piles of old keyboards still in boxes, or a collection of old power cables and computer magazines from 2003. Sometimes there’s some good stuff, but most of the time it’s just trash which someone’s convinced themselves is worth a few €.
