seems like a bit much now, but there was a lot of campaigning against cigarettes in the 90s, and this accurately depicts the rather fast change in societal acceptance of smoking in the US.

i really wish my landlord would let me drill holes in the wall so I could run ethernet cables rather than dealing with wifi. we have 4Gbps internet here but I'm lucky to get 50Mbps over wifi where my computer is at

then again i have a 1.3TB cap on my internet so it's probably a good thing I dont have insane speeds

I would include Cul de Sac in that list, but it ran 2004-2012 so pretty much no one outside the newpaper comic strip thread knew about it. then the creator Richard Thompson got cancer and died :(

yep true that's why i specified last, not much has really been good since the 90s in newspaper comics. i'd also add little nemo and early peanuts. there are probably lots more but idk much about newspaper comics beyond that

yeah I ran an SFP direct attach cable between my NAS and my video editing PC. should allow me to edit video right off the NAS now

my internet still arrives over regular gigabit Ethernet and is only like 400mb anyway, so Ethernet is more than good for that.

I do need to figure out that dip in performance though. not sure if it’s the nas caching things to ram and then running out of data, or if it’s my NIC or NVME heating up. google seems to suggest that the SFP NIC cards need server-like airflow to stay cool enough. My editing desktop isn’t doing anything like that for airflow, so I may need to stick a little fan on the NIC heatsink

it doesn't always work and depends on the quality of the wiring in your house.
mine worked great in previous place, but slowed my internet down to a crawl in my current apartment. and because the power lines are all in the walls and ceilings, its too much work to figure ouw where the problem is.

still, might be worth it to try. just buy the powerline adapters and if it doesn't speed things up by enough, send them back

g.hn is goddamn magical but theres no way you're gonna get 4 Gbps. even with the new 2 gbps adapters its more like 800 mbps after overhead

still better than 50 though

"FOUR GIGABITS!" (shhh, with a really low cap) lets them rake in subscriptions from suckers without the ISP actually needing to buy expensive transit. oh sorry we gave you a garden hose but there's only a quart of water to drink between the hundred of you.
