There are millions of fully radicalized people who believe batshit insane things and no longer share a reality with the rest of us because their entire reality is an ouroboros of bullshit and conspiracy fed to them by the right wing media machine. We have no means of deprogramming them, if they even can be. Things will never be "normal" again, at least through the ballot box.

It's going to take generations to weed this poo poo out even if it started right now.

It's like a fad that gets old after a few years only, instead of it being "pet rock", it's "we're embracing fascism because the orange man said so and also said that democrats are the badguy, not him!".

I was at a meeting once where a guy who is a policy expert summed up the research on state failure and civil war with "at heart violence is the result of objectively bad life situations interacting with dysfunctional beliefs." Statistically, increased spending on healthcare and education are two direct things that a government can do to reduce the risk of civil war. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work here.

Surprisingly this isn't a new phenomenon - it's simply more visible than it ever has been. People have always believed fantastically stupid things. Maybe politicians actively engaging with their hair-brained beliefs at this scale is new but targeting dummys definitely isn't.

I did same day registration in Washington and sent in my ballot! I'm part of the solution! I didn't get a loving sticker though so the whole thing felt kind of like a pointless bureaucratic exercise...

Idiots with power and a platform on which to make it a thing justify idiots without them (in their minds) having Bad Opinions because someone who was never even close to being adjusted socially said so on the TV picture box!

It doesn't help that 1 of the 2 political parties in this country was so weak that it was hijacked by a septogenarian who has never been told no in his life and, when he finally was, didn't like it one bit and decided to try to take a match to the country because he was pouty.

Yeah. But the contents of the John Birch Society newsletter didn't used to be broadcast on several 24/7 networks. And social media is a lot more convenient than ham radio for talking about it.

Slobbering angry mobs whipped into a frenzy by demagogues is the default state of man, and what we're seeing is a return to the historical mean after a bizzare half- century anomaly. Post WW2 to 9/11 electronic broadcasting was overwhelmingly effective at drowning out other messaging but so fantastically expensive the only powers that could buy in to the game had interests that mostly aligned with the things that maintain a stable society.

Meanwhile now we're coming up on 15 years of everyone in the world carrying a tv production studio, mobile newsvan, and transmitter tower in their pocket 24/7

That was also a self reporting poll. Strangely enough, Abbott and company haven't really released anything that can be considered both accurate and earth shattering.

Beto's camp has shown numerous polls with them near margin of error of Abbott. But they are stressing that they need help.

I have a feeling the polls are off, this might be closer than Beto/Cruz. I am still expecting Abbott to win, regardless of my preference.

What I was not expecting: there are a lot of Beto signs. Way more than I remember seeing last time around. Definitely more than you would expect for a joke meme candidate.

I don't think he'll win but after the winter storm and Uvalde a lot more people seem comfortable publicly supporting him. I hope the Democrats are investing in a deeper platform here and not just trying to fund raise off abahahaha I couldn't keep a straight face.

I think he'll do better than he did against Cruz. Thing is though, nobody likes Cruz. I have met literally one person in my entire life who is a Ted Cruz fan. That person was in Florida.

Yeah, it's almost like banning abortion is incredibly unpopular. Talking about it while doing almost nothing only goes so far though as shown by the apparent apathy from Dem voters.

As of 10PM EST, I don't see a single election caller saying it's a red wave. Outside of Florida, Democrats are winning a few toss-ups (Spanberger), while winning Republican reaches (CO-SEN) just aren't close. But Republicans don't need a wave, so it's still a senate toss-up with a heavily favored house flip. Georgia's probably iffy and trending runoff due to the libertarian pulling 2%, who knows on that one.
