Feels like I'm on a never ending quest to find something that hits me like ATW do, but thanks for the Wovenhand rec, that poo poo is dope.

The only solution is to just listen to ATW more. Their Bakers Dozen series is good and weird.

I have to be in a mood for Wovenhand but I really really like them. Refractory Obdurate is my favorite. If you want to go back to their roots, check out 16 Horsepower. It's more Gothic Americana, has more banjo, but you can really hear where the Wovenhand sound began.

Samsara Blues Experiment or Somali Yacht Club might scratch that itch, but yeah really the best option is to just binge ATW. Don't sleep on that Live in Brussels album either. That thing is fire.

Sim City 3000 is one of my favorite soundtracks ever, but I don't even know where to begin to find more songs or bands that sound like Night Life, Sim Broadway, and UpDown town. "Jazz" is way too vague, but if anyone wants to give any of those three songs a listen and help me out, I'd appreciate it. If I had to pick one song to represent what I want, it'd be Sim Broadway one it gets going.

I hear more than a little Rhapsody in Blue influence in Sim Broadway.

Polygon made a video about the music from the Sims, which has a lot of the same roots. Apparently the composer has a lot of the music available on his site? Apologies if the embed fails, I'm phoneposting.

I like rhapsody in blue, but the Piano sections don't have the big, loud, upbeat energy I get from Sim Broadway. I'll check out the Polygon piece.

Edit: interesting interview about the Sims, which I'd never really played, but I gave the sound track a listen and it's not quite the same. Frustratingly, telling streaming services to play music similar to Sim City 3000 is just getting me various OSTs.

Edit: Oh, hey:

I would like some recommendations for music similar to this specific track. I have been listening to both kaytranda and little dragon and I can't find anything I like as much as this.

I'm very impressed by spotify's algorithm thingy because I don't really listen to any other music like this and it picked this specific track which I love. It has this really specific vibe.

Thanks.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a music podcast, specifically one that is just music and not talking about music? Something like the now defunct 23 minutes of Ska. I'd prefer a wide swath of genres but if I needed to specify I'd be looking for hip hop, punk and metal.

Having a podcast that is just auto downloaded saves me when I'm not in service range and also removes the choice paralysis involved with picking a station in a streaming platform.

Thank you!

Gummy Bear Heaven ... It's where I go when the world is too mean.
This isn't 100% what you are looking for, but I enjoy Live in KEXP, which puts up a ≈20 minute performance every week, like 15 minutes of music and 5 minutes of talking with the artist.

https://kexp.org/podcasts/live-on-kexp/

Mostly various types of "indie" rock stuff.

They also have a song of the day podcast if you just want to hear new stuff.

I'd be happy to learn about a podcast that promotes new hip-hop to me!

Zamrock is a pretty different thing. Basically just Zambian bands playing psych rock in the '70s. Pretty cool scene though!

yes dj screw himself has done so, if you count pop ballads like no ordinary love and in the air tonight, they sound loving great imo

obviously these tracks are still partly electronic production-wise. if you are asking about someone doing it with like folk music or something i dunno. i dont think that would work so well.

Thanks for mentioning Schnittke. It's my first time hearing about him, and exploring his life/work has had a pretty significant emotional impact on me.

God drat, declared clinically dead after a stroke, and then continuing to compose for years afterwards. I'm listening to piano sonata no.1, written right after the first stroke, I think, and it's hit me like a tonne of bricks. My dad plays and teaches piano and we thought we were gonna lose him to a stroke last year.

I'm looking to flesh out my pump up playlist with more aggressive stuff. Currently features stuff like Megadeth's Holy Wars, BfmV's Room 409, and the likes of LL Cool J's Ripper Strikes Back or 50 Cent's Your Life's on the Line. Less traditional locker room energy and more, as I said, aggression. Dont worry, I'm not about to go on a killing spree, its just lately this is what I feed more off of.

Anyone got recommendations for something like Reverberation Radio? My favorite ones are the playlists that have Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, Harry Nilson, Neil Young in them. I don't think any of them have anything heavier than Sonic Youth on them.

Looking for something that has the same playlist feel to it. I like the mixes they have that have international music in them too, I can't list most of the musicians but I just like to play a bunch and pick out a few to listen to more and reverberation radio isn't posting as much anymore.

Hello all! I need some good work songs. I don’t really know how to describe them other than songs like 16 Tons by Tennessee Ford, Another Cog in the Machine by The Cog is Dead and We All Lift Together by Keith Power. Songs about work but have that cadence to work to,if that makes sense. Like, Working in a Coal Mine is a song about work but it’s too upbeat and chipper.

well, this is basically noisecore, which is a specific style that branched off from grindcore back in the 80s. early bands were pretty noisy, e.g. fear of god or sore throat, and tended to get nosier over time, like arsedestroyer, gore beyond necropsy and sissy spacek. so you probably want to search for more noisecore bands. i'm not totally sure what you mean by white noise because the band you posted doesn't really sound like white noise to me, but you might also try listening to some harsh noise, e.g. macronympha, incapacitants or killer bug. although, harsh noise generally doesn't have any rock structures at all, even in bands that use rock instrumentation like hijokaidan, so whether it is what you're looking for or not i am not sure. some noisecore bands have done stuff that gets into harsh noise territory as well, for example sissy spacek have done pure noise releases as well as noisecore ones.
