Oh drat! Hadn't even noticed. She's great in reservation dogs. My crush on that show is Devery Jacobs though.

Wait what is this thread about?

Top Class!
The Wire definitely had some seasons that are better than others, but we're talking about a "very good" to "genre defining" fluctuation, not that some seasons suck. It will bum you out though. The worst season (5) is still better than most other things.

I liked the most recent season of Futurama ok. The movies were so so, the two seasons that followed were bad, and then I because of that I didn’t bother with the final one until a few months ago. Good not great. Won’t skip on the next rewatch. 3 stars. One thumb up.

I don't mean to be pushy regarding the television series Red Dwarf; I am not that specific type of smeghead. The thought has occurred to me, however, that I haven't made the best case for it.

If you find yourself in the mood for a solidly witty sitcom with better sci-fi underpinnings than a surface reading might suggest, and well-realized characters brought to life by a cast with pretty great chemistry, well...maybe seek out one of my favorite individual episodes, "Thanks for the Memory". I think it makes a great case for itself. Or jump in with the first ep, which lays out the premise pretty clearly. It's worth considering, is all, if my description catches your fancy

Dave Lister is definitely one of the more relatable Last Humans I've encountered in fiction

I am so itching for a rewatch but am waiting another year or so for my kids to be old enough to watch with me. I do hope they don’t notice how many of my jokes are stolen from that show.

Brinkmanship

I know you're on The Wire but when you finish I'd like to put forth Person of Interest as an option. It starts as a basic procedural and escalates to be one of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time.

Elevator pitch: A genius computer guy built a machine that analyses everyone's personal info and flags likely terrorist activity for the government. In the process it also flagged people involved in regular non-terrorist violent crimes, but the government didn't care about those. So computer guy built a backdoor that lets him find out the names of the so-called "irrelevant" people, and then hired an ex-spy to be his muscle/field guy. Each episode they have a name, but they don't know if that person is the perpetrator or the victim! Will they save the day?

As the show continues, it genuinely starts to explore the consequences of AI, surveillance, the security vs freedom question, and a bunch of other super-relevant stuff. Also, Michael Emerson and Taraji P. Henson are in it and they are fantastic. I have never seen a show pivot from episodic to serial as smoothly as this one has.

Don't watch Seinfeld it's really bad and annoying.

Last time I watched an episode there was an episode where Jerry dated a virgin. Someone asked him how he wasn't able to tell and he said "well it's not like spotting a toupee" and then the audience laughed for like 40 seconds while all the characters stood still to wait for the laughter to stop.

I was so confused, in any other tv show this would be just like... a line but in this show it was treated like it was funny and the climax of the episode.

ive been mostly watching justified lately. definitely not on the level of the wire or sopranos etc. but its pretty good. there are some great actors on it and the writing is mostly decent. the show takes place in kentucky and unfortunately you hear a whole range of people trying to do the accent, some of them are pretty good and some of them are really not. the protagonist is timothy olyphant playing a character not much different from his deadwood character, and walton goggins plays one of the main antagonists and he's a lot of fun to watch.

I really liked this show and haven’t watched it in forever but I constantly think about a particular scene. It hinges on a lady going to spy on the bad guys but it goes wrong because they notice she’s way too pretty to be there. Here’s where I get hung up: it’s a Hollywood show so every lady in the whole show is a 10/10 hot model smokeshow (especially Margo martendale) so my belief was dissuspended. Like even now in those rare times I put my phone down and think my own thoughts that scene rises up to haunt me.

in some ways, my favorite show of all time, Twin Peaks, has the same drop in quality over time. the first season is peak television, and the 2nd is good but has some parts that drag. however, i still recommend watching both seasons because the show is as much about vibes as it is about the story, and the vibe is solid the whole time.

i am ashamed to admit i haven't watched the new season that came out on itunes a few years back. keep meaning to, but am afraid of what might be there.

The Shield is fascinating to me because more than any show I can imagine (ending spoilers) its ultimate resolution is completely recontextualized by subsequent real life events.

As you'll recall, Vic Mackey's story ended with the poison chalice of getting away with everything but being buried in a job where the adults in charge would never let him onto the street again...at ICE..and then Trump got elected president. Motherfucker probably ended up as Secretary of Homeland Security.

It's like if the final beat of Seinfeld in 1998 featured George taking an office job at the top of the World Trade Center.

Home after a fantastic show where I made a sweaty mess of myself

So, S01E04 - the cases

I’m about to watch it now, and I’ll try to note things as I watch it, however I also may just gently caress it up

- I’m loving watching these mini furnishings being made. Where is the Freeman’s Furnishings spin-off
- can’t you just unscrew the feet off the desk? How is this hard, wait…they’re just gonna leave that desk? they…they’re…OK.
- I love that the intro has a little bit of windows XP UI just eternally etched
- I also really love that there is a quote to start off the episodes
- The look of Daniels, staring at Mahone blabbing on his “retirement” is priceless
- oh my God he is he’s just walking out there he goes
- “one legged pig town whore on check day”
- oh my god McNulty, the divorced dad energy
- god I truly dislike Carver, even if he wasn’t a cop, I would still hate him.
- i love Kima and McNulty’s chemistry - its magnetic and they complement each other so well. This so far is maybe my favorite thing from this show?
- I’m dying at this apartment gently caress scene. It’s…it’s really something else. This is AMAZING. Emmy for this scene alone. I love the landlord just walking around like :stare:
- oh wow actual lesbian intimacy and it’s not super porny and like, normal? +1

That was the point during my first watch of The Wire where I was absolutely hooked. It's so good.

I am so excited for you to see everyone's character arcs play out. It's one of those shows where people really do change drastically throughout. I ended up loving people by the end who I hated initially and vice versa.
