cd-audio cables from your cdrom drive to your sound card, so you can listen to music by pressing the little play button directly on the front plate of the drive

e: or use the windows cd player app, i guess

A bunch of PC Capcom games became unplayable when GFWL went down, including RE5, Street Fighter × Tekken, and I think some of the Lost Planet games. Not sure if Capcom ever went back to patch it out.

Capcom didn't, but cursory glance at software section of archive.org shows that gamers did mod the poo poo out of those games. Somebody uploaded a hefty 25gb package of Gears of War, with GFWL stripped and tons of maps/mods included and who knows what else

You can run a kms server on almost anything that runs linux or python and will allow you to install your own software. As a bonus it will let you use a ton of other microsoft products too.

the little 2 pin SPDIF header on motherboards. I actually used this back in the day when i set up a lovely "htpc" across the living room from the stereo, and it passed flawless surround sound with no fiddling. i was amazed

e: run was about 35 feet of cat5 that i just soldered RCA plugs on to lol
