I don't think it's weird to call it plagiarism when he's basically copying another comic panel by panel, putting his name on it and using it to ask for money. It's not like he's sharing it on 4chan just for the lulz.

I found it an obvious parody

I mean, “parody” in the strictest sense of the word. I don’t think Ben is trying to pass this off as an original idea. It’s his boomer rear end trying to appeal to his newfound 4chan friends with memes, something he did a lot during the 2016 election when he realized the Nazis editing his cartoons were good, actually.

Hell given how much his art has declined it wouldn't surprise me if he thought it was an original idea and he just didn't remember where it came from.

Yes, it’s this. Garrison is intentionally doing a meme blindly hoping it will attract his desired audience, Internet nazis, they like the memes right?

The idea that CEOs are watching a number labelled "Minimum wage" slowly going up and once gets high enough they are going to flip a switch and instantly automate everything is hilarious, because it shows just how ignorant these geniuses really are.

They have no idea whatsoever the sheer variety of tasks a human performs in even the simplest job, and each one of these tasks is going to require a separate machine to automate.

And even if companies were willing to automate an entire building, you can't just slap a few machines into a sixty year old building, you have to literally build and design a building from the ground up to automate everything.

And then there's the maintenance , oh boy, the maintenance.

I work in an old rear end warehouse, the only automation we have a a simple conveyor belt that runs through the building, the most complex thing about are the barcode scanners that kick totes off the belt onto different rollers.

And it requires a ton of maintenance to keep it running nearly all day, and even then it still breaks down.
And when it goes down it's down for hours or days.

Unless it truly shits the bed, then it's down for weeks because you have to call in an outside specialist.

Sorry, but McDonalds isn't going to rebuild and automate everyone of their buildings, only to shut them down for a month while waiting for a specialist with specialized training and specialized tools to install a specialized part just because minimum wage went up three dollars an hour.

McDonald's can't even keep a loving ice cream machine working. They expect them to be able to make something that can cook, assemble, package, and serve various configurations of hamburger, and also fries and fish and chicken? I bet you that poo poo wouldn't even go a day without someone making GBS threads themselves inside out because of botulism due to cross-contamination.

Pants Donkey
Nov 13, 2011

If I recall, the ice cream machines being crap are part of an intentional deal with the company that makes them. Either to save on the machines and make repairs the franchisees’ problem or because the maker intentionally sell cheap crap and McDonald’s not being that concerned about ice cream/shake sales to bother going with a different company.

It’s not incompetence, or rather it is but the intentional, lowest-common-denominator poo poo you expect from capitalism.

MechaCrash
Jan 1, 2013

Yeah, that is true. But ultimately, I don't think it matters if the machines are cheap garbage that work poorly on the rare occasions they work at all because of malice or incompetence. There will be a lot of factors in play that result in "just get a robot to do it" not loving working.

Hell, I remember reading an article ages ago (I no longer recall specifics) about robotics projects being designed in a lab, and immediately making GBS threads themselves when they're deployed, because hey we built a super cool fruit picker robot except whoops the sensor has to be kept clear of moisture, which is kind of a problem for a device deployed in an orchard and not a clean room.

It's the first one. The company makes actual reliable machines that it sells to other fast food outlets. The Mcdonald machines have a sub 70% uptime and the design flaw that causes them to break is known and could be re-engineered. McDonald's has a contract that requires franchises to go to the same companys for repairs that are extremely bloated costs. The whole thing is an elaborate way of charging a hidden franchise fee. There is even an illicit firmware patch that fixes the problem (from what I remember it has to do with how the machine fills itself freezing with the cold temp) that both the company and Mcdonald aggressively crack down on.

So McD's would buy the lovely robots that constantly break down and cost the franchise owners thousands of dollars to fix (and if they aren't fixed in X amount of time they're fined by McD's)?

But the trouble is he keeps using the comet as the stand-in for climate change, which isn't great because (a) it isn't caused by dino activity (b) dinos can't do anything about it and, slightly less problematic but still an issue, (c) the effects are felt instantly and then it's too late
