Like many google products/features, it'll go away in six months when the person who wrote it can't use it to get promoted any further.

I didn't realize how much I loved YouTube premium until my CC expired and my sub ran out. That was hell. I pay for family and think it's a steal. YouTube + music + offline downloads + no ads? Considering cable is like $100, and comes with ads, makes YouTube a good deal to me.

Not even 5 mins later, I opened Steam, which was NOT running in the background (or at least in the system tray, maybe some process I didn’t see) and lo and behold a pop up for the game I never heard of showed and when I closed that and went to the main Steam page, both games mentioned in the post were showing as recommended to me. I almost have to give them a round of applause for getting that data so quickly. that’s why I throw them off by constantly having porn open

Klyith posted:Do you think google is making decisions about who to track? No! They're collecting all the data, and they don't really give a poo poo if it's good or bad or spoofed. You too have a data profile (or many) in the google panopticon. Google definitely cares about the quality of the data they collect. You’re correct that I probably have 1000 shadow profiles but there is no way to connect them into useful data. You yourself just admitted that they didn’t track you until you bought an android phone and like duh that’s gold to Google they don’t just give away android to pixel competitors to be nice. When confronted with a powerful black box people have a tendency to ascribe any and all capabilities they can imagine but Google has a lot of practical and legal considerations to deal with.

Ey, the goons called it. Just got an email from YouTube about increasing the price of Premium. I'm on the grandfathered plan so for me it's going up to 16.99 (AUD) for the single plan. Price goes up in April.

Yeeah, I didn't even think of checking that and honestly was thinking of upgrading to Family to give to give some accounts to my kids. I ain't doing that for thirty loving dollars a month.

Looks like jacking up the advertising is proving pretty profitable for youtube if they're upping the premium plan prices by that much

They're going to end up with some Hulu ad bullshit of showing you 2 minutes of ads every 5 minutes and they're unskippable. Oh look, we're back to regular television now except the content isn't regulated!

24 euros for the family plan here. Right in time for a nice Q1 report for either ads (yay Xmas) or subs.

So this is kinda wild to me but a 6 loving hour Eve online documentary dropped last night and when I looked it had 450k views 14 hours in. https://youtu.be/BCSeISYcoyI?si=S_LNo9-gmhsAlGRm How are views actually counted on YouTube? That’s something I’ve never actually seen anywhere. The first 45 min of the video are a pretty good look into how the game came about at least.

Considering his other videos, I'm expecting the EVE video to be top-tier. At the same time, good lord 6 hours. Ah well, I know what I'm listening to when I'm making pokemon ornaments to sell.

In addition, Floatplane subscriptions are back to falling. It looked like they had stabilized in the 34k range, but I think the latest "I broke my server due to plumbing negligence" knocked them down below 34k and they're still dropping.
