I remember in 2014 I was visiting Boulder where there are plenty of techy people and Google Glass had been explicitly banned from multiple establishments. I don't think it was even available to the public at large yet. Anyway I'm sure this will go over fine

I have a sneaking suspicion that it won't reach the same level of hate as Glass because so many people are already familiar with VR. gently caress these rear end in a top hat driving a car while using one, though. Especially a Cyber truck.

Honestly, I admit I kind of like the idea of this device, and if it were cheaper (and I could also be sure I could see out of it) I would absolutely be one of the dweebs with one. Even a good laptop can be uncomfortable, and I find phone screens a little too small for my decrepit old eyes, so you young'uns better get to making this cheaper for your elders

So you have depth perception and you can totally walk around with that thing on your head if you are some kind of weirdo. Theres a dial you can turn to fade out the real world and fade in a virtual environment if you don't want to see the filthy poor around you.

If they didn't cost the earth I'd be interested - I bought some Xreal glasses to use with my Steam Deck and they've been great, and I can absolutely see how these would be neat for flights/long train journeys/being a home nerd etc. Using them on commutes/walking around outside though? Good god no. Oh poo poo. Some insufferable loving dork is going to keep these on while interacting with eg coffeeshop staff, isn't he? Ahh man oh no.

The Meta Quest 3 does pretty much everything the Vision Pro does. Yes it does all of it a bit worse but it also doesn't cost a fortune. It also actually has a gigantic collection of games compared to the Vision Pro. And yes there are totally videos of people walking around and going shopping with their Quest 3 on their face.

the vision pro is neat if you already have a whole house full of apple poo poo. you can move your macbook's screen into a virtual window in the vision os and still use the mouse/keyboard/track pad and those peripherals will work on the other vision os apps you have open when you look at them obviously still not worth the money

You can, of course, mirror one Mac screen and display other vision pro apps at the same time. Because that's almost the same!

One thing that doesn't come through on the various pictures of it is that the front of it is a huge display that renders a fake version of your face staring at people nearby. (I assume you can disable this to save power.) It does this by tracking anyone nearby, and attempting to render an angle-appropriate version of your face towards whomever it deems worthy of your attention. I'm sure it can be toggled off, but it's a nice little creepy cherry on top. Now you can enjoy creepy, uncanny valley stares from a fuzzy, glowy display as you're talking to one of these vision pro havers.
