I Failed At Anime 2022
I started watching three shows tonight. World's End Harem, Police in a Pod, and My Dress Up Doll and the quality of those shows is all pretty much in ascending order with World's End Harem being the only stand out poo poo one but I want some garbage to watch and by god is it easily the one with the least personality and most lifeless look of the three. I hope Dress Up Doll continues to look as good as the first episode does because I really enjoy the premise and both main characters and the ED is cute. Police in a Pod was very fun and I like how the cops are equally as passive aggressive as the people they fine.

By the way the live action MV of the full ED is out, and it's pretty fun, has the singer cosplaying as Marin and her cosplays.

Without spoiling the context for people who haven't watched the episode yet, Marin going "Oh everyone does this" only to have the footnote go "'everyone' may not apply to everyone" just reminded me of how sometimes people will make declarative statements about shows that can't actually be backed up. It's nothing deeper than that.

Kinda both. All I'll say is Metropoliman is well and done with, and if you thought for a sec all the wordswordswords about not killing would get in the way of this bastards' gleefully gratuitous death, worry not! And the best character gets to do it, even!

The production end of things wants to be jojo very badly, and cant fault it, the execution is what gets me most of the way there w this show

Yeah Platinum End is a show with really big highs but only moderate lows. There's at least one twist per episode but it feels earned unlike some other shows I've watched that took this roller coaster approach.

IShallRiseAgain
Sep 12, 2008

Well ain't that precious?

I just don't know how it can continue because most of the show has been about Metropoliman being the main villain. There isn't really enough time to establish another antagonist that can be his match and now its lacking the best character. Also, Metropoliman was the main driver behind turning it into a death game. Nobody else really seem interested in doing that.

The manga just finished this month, so the anime should be able to cover all of it at the pace it's going.

I wasn't talking about being able to cover all the material. I'm just not sure how much more can be done with the story at this point.

shuumatsu no harem didn't make it the 3 episodes i usually give anime before dropping them. it's just bad. and with all the censorship it's not even worth watching for the porn.

But if you get to three episodes you can put it on your worst of 2022 list instead of just most avoided!

Aside from it being in this weird twilight between ecchi and ... whatever it's going for... I'm honestly wondering if it'll make a worst of list or just kind of be this weird blip like Super HxEros was.

marumaru

honestly it's probably not going to make any worst of 2022 lists because it's so thoroughly insipid that no one will remember that it aired by the end of the year

Even if the show wasn't goofy fun, shouting out the local sentai groups would be more than enough to endear the show to me.

Yeah, that's a fair summary of it. It's just so slapdash, like the creator didn't have faith in their plot and threw a bunch of eroge into it?

Life's too short for bad anime, dspecially when you can just read the mange for a summary of the plot beats. Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest will probably be my filler choice for the season.

I'm trying to like this Dress-up Darling show, and got to reading the manga as well, but the thing that's getting to me is that the male protagonist seems sexually repressed even by sexually repressed male anime protagonist standards, and it clashes with, rather than complements, the female protagonist's enthusiastic attitude towards glamourized sexuality. I get that it's part of his socially isolated characterization, but it honestly would have been better if he were just oblivious as opposed to constantly uncomfortable.

What I like is the strong themes of challenging gender expectations and appearances, and the detailed focus of a specific hobby that educates the viewer on how it's done. Gotta say -- this is one thing you see in anime a lot (i.e. gourmet cooking in Food Wars, animation production in Eizouken, etc.), often to highly entertaining as well as educational results, and deserves to be recognized as a genre unto itself.

I also really love how, although more so the manga, it's drawn in a style very reminiscent of old-school shoujo.

I think a teen being constantly uncomfortable about sexuality is way more likely than being oblivious. Social isolation doesn't make him clueless.
