I’m not so sure tonight is going to go amazing for democrats. From what I recall in 2016, Pence’s debate persona was to pretend to be a totally normal Republican, a respectable counterweight to Trump. To do that he just brazenly lied when responding to every single question. Now that he has a record to defend he’s in a tighter spot, I guess, but a successful performance could also reassure Republicans that there are still adults in the room. Dude’s slippery. e:

Pence has the significant issue that the Coronavirus response was supposed to be on him and that has been bungled so thoroughly that it going to taint him. He could still do well or Harris could bomb but at very least Pence is now "the dude who hosed up the Coronavirus response."

Harris is a prosecutor. Yes she's terrible and used that skill set to destroy innocent lives in CA. But she still has that skill set. I expect her to handle Pence better than Tim Kaine did.

In 2016 Pence was actively trying to distance himself from Trump. He had bailed on Indiana so he didn't lose a reelection, and everyone thought Hillary was going to wipe the floor with Trump. He was just trying to stay quiet and leave with a career that could be salvaged, whatever that might be. It didn't help that Tim Kaine was just as bland and uninteresting as Pence so it was just kinda a white guy off. This year? Pence has nothing after Trump. He'll be persona non grata politically for the rest of his life. And he has shown himself to be completely obsequious to Trump's beck and call. And against a black woman? Nah, Pence will come out swinging with whatever he considers fists. And I think it'll be pretty easy for Kamala to dunk on him. We'll see. Again, VP debates don't matter and only degenerates watch them.
