HashtagGirlboss posted:How has there never been an ET 2? ET Too: putting the extra in extra terrestrial and there’s two ETs there was a book sequel https://brandedinthe80s.com/6446/e-t-went-home-alright-and-maybe-he-should-have-stayed-there quote:This leads me to the gist of today’s subject, which is the continuing story of the beloved plant-friendly alien, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial in his only sequel story, The Book of the Green Planet. Published in 1985 and written by William Kotzwinkle, the same gentleman responsible for the film-to-book novelization of the original story, Book of the Green Planet follows E.T.’s adventures after reuniting with his species as they travel back to the home planet to study the flora specimens they’ve been collecting from Earth over the millennia. In the original novelization we got a peek into a different view of the movie as Kotzwinkle tended to write from E.T.’s perspective, giving the reader an insight absent from the movie. In that book E.T. comes across as a wholly different character, at times a centered peaceful monk-like being wise beyond his ten million years of age (yup in the book he’s 10,000,000 years old for crying out loud), a others a tired curmudgeon afraid of offending Elliott and his siblings as he sees them as the rulers of the planet. It’s an odd balancing act that takes a weird shift in the follow-up sequel novel. ![]()

I can't imagine a near-immortal alien being subjected to the psychic assault of puberty

E.T. 2: Brute obviously revolves around mid-50s Elliot (played by the same actor, pay any amount to get him back) being psychically contacted by his friend E.T. (now also an adult, but equivalent to early 20s human development) to help capture a huge muscular space criminal "The Brute". There's a bunch of action sequences and (![]() Also Elliot is an FBI agent now and the US government are good and helpful. The Brute stabs someone in the back in Act 3 Scene 1 as a Shakespeare reference, even tho movies are usually only 3 acts and not 5.

Dr. Jerrold Coe posted:there was a book sequel https://brandedinthe80s.com/6446/e-t-went-home-alright-and-maybe-he-should-have-stayed-there The Book of the Green Planet is right behind Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator on my short list of really wacked out sequel novels that movie fans would not be prepared to see onscreen.
