I hate DA2 for a number of reasons but one of the big ones that sticks with me after all these years is that the most interesting storyline (the Qunari) wraps up about 5 story beats too early to set the stage for a painfully generic ending where templars fight mages again.

I feel like DA2 had a plot change at some point, since it feels like Kirkwall is basically designed to be the setting of a horror game, what with the massive blood / leylines comprising the entire city. Like, if the ending was 'cthulhu shows up' you wouldn't bat an eye, but that never happens.
