Revenge CAN destroy your soul and eat away at you from the inside until you are a shell. It CAN do that. But it can also be pretty cool and fun

If your inside isn't that great to begin with, it's an excellent way to make room for a new you.

Well... major spoilers so don't read if you care:
we time jump 5 years and Joel is immediately murdered by the daughter of one of the doctors he kills at the end of the first game to save Ellie, and the rest of the game is Ellie's quest for revenge then a smash cut to the story leading up to murdering Joel where you play the daughter and learn to understand her pain/motivation. There's also intercut flashbacks of Joel and Ellie drifting apart through their new adventures.

There's also some minor plot beats about a third faction that's just kinda the videogame baddies you kill with no remorse so maybe they could beef them up but even so... that's 2 seasons tops, unless they do a Last of Us 1.5 season to help Bella Ramsey age up or really scrape that butter thin. The game is only 20 hours and that includes all the exploring and shooting.

eugh hopefully that isn't how they adapt it, showing something then doing a flashback to show how it happened is the most bullshit rear end storytelling technique

it really is an interesting phenomena to observe just how bad a lot of things look despite objectively more powerful tools and gobs of mone

well sure but usually people used to at least have pride and standards for their work even if it’s ‘slop’. sure not everyone was a kubrick but a lot of people wanted to be

you can observe it in a lot of burgeroid productions/services/etc these days, not just television.

I'll give it some credit because it's not trying to be clever about "here's how it all came together"
It's more about humanizing the character that just murdered you surrogate dad, so you start out hating them but you still have to play as them to get the story and you come to slowly realize they're not just a mindless psychopath - gasp, they're just like you and your dad murdered their dad first etc etc

Not exactly a new message or clever twist but I suppose novel in the context of a videogame... though I guess the metal gear series already did more or less the same thing.

But still that tonal shock put a lot of people off the game, and I don't think it's even a technique that would work on a show because you can't just have an entire season be a character study that forgets about the ensemble cast, even if you want to. The logistics of hollywood and the way we consume just wouldn't allow for it. GoT established the ever-jumping POV so every character's story moves forward millimeters per episode

youre absolutely right. maybe its just projection on my part, but i notice it everywhere. fast food places, stores, even at work. i personally have gone from 'good days work for a good days pay' to matching my crews average.

I think a lot of people realize the plane is crashing, and to their credit, are not responding with despair and lamentations
instead they're enjoying the bumpy ride and raiding the cabinet full of tiny booze

and I applaud that impulse... we have so little control in this world, the best we can do is try to have as good a time as we can muster

With a budget of roughly $6 million per episode, season one cost around $60 million (£47 million) to make over the course of its ten-episode run.

After season one earned the show a strong fan-base, and was a critical success to boot, season two reportedly got a 15% increase in budget, which would take it from roughly $60 million (£47 million) to around $69 million (£54 million)
