the amazing thing is that the "Reform ICE" crowd also hates ICE, but they're convinced that the strawman they've constructed of the Mythical Moderate would be scared of someone saying Abolish ICE

The amazing thing is that reaction is exactly what the analysis( by the kind of bullshit retired intelligence officers that appear on NPR and CNN) says is the goal. Not some specific policy aim, but undermining the credibility of everything.

It's a very self-fulfilling prophecy "Russia wants to undermine and divide us, which is why I've decided that no serious policy goal is worth trying and politicians that care about stuff are bad" It reminds me a lot of the Tea Party's shtick -- "government doesn't work, which is why I've decided to do my best to sabotage all government programs" -- which is ironic considering which faction is supposed to be the Tea Party analogue

i love the comments, americans have been well trained to think the richest country on earth cant have things other countries already have had for decades the sad thing is its infecting my country and now we have people going "well we can't afford the NHS, despite having been able to afford it suspiciously well until the party that hates it trashed it for 8 years"

It's not just that the Republicans have spend decades calling anyone to the left of Nixon a socialist communist that they have no words left for the real thing, but they have zero idea how to deal with a Democrat who actually doesn't sit back and take their poo poo and isn't ashamed of having policies, and won't shackle themselves with one-sided 'decorum'.

Foaming the runways with millions of poor American bodies. Sounds like him, alright.Hentai Jihadist posted:i love the comments, americans have been well trained to think the richest country on earth cant have things other countries already have had for decades I think it's the end result of 30+ years of ratcheting down on taxation and therefore government programs that are visible to everyday people. The lived experience is lovely roads, lovely public transport, lovely government services so it broadcasts "America is broke." The siphoning off of all America's wealth by the vampire class isn't an easy thing to see around you when this has been the norm for 30+ years. That and a concerted effort by Republicans to equate the debt-to-GDP ratio with freedom, and Third Wayism from Democrats. It all narrows the horizon for what government is actually capable of accomplishing, even though we have plenty of examples from American history where implementing progressive taxation, jobs programs, big public works projects, etc. was incredibly popular with the vast majority of Americans, and these things rightly caused the presidents who pushed for them to be idolized for it. Teddy Roosevelt would have almost certainly won a third term had he not proclaimed to the world he wouldn't seek one in a heady moment of victory, and FDR was arguably the most popular and successful president ever. My big hope is that we can just get Sanders or someone like him in the door, get some of these policies in place, and then have them be so overwhelmingly popular that it's basically the new normal for at least a generation. It's a lot to hope for, but I think people are finally waking up to this and getting mad enough to run and/or vote. MeatwadIsGod has issued a correction as of 16:32 on Jul 2, 2018 |

Ghost Leviathan posted:Lanyards I figured referred to people who are in some way plugged into the democrat establishment, often campaign workers and journalists/opinion writers, who wear lanyards at public events all the time, hence the name. When higher classed slaves went to market or into public they'd wear a placard around their neck. Ostensibly, this placard was to designate their status as slaves, but it was also a message: gently caress with this guy and you'll be dealing with consequences from the domina/dominus of that family or house. Jewellery served the same purpose for wives, daughters, signaling "this person is cared about by society and matters."

Lanyards aspire to show themselves off as slaves owned by ever more powerful masters is what I'm saying. It's not a bad quirk of human psychology for survival; we've mostly been slaves or subjects for most of our civilized history.

He asked for examples of him being lovely to progressives, and instead of owning up to it, he made the bog-standard centrist "I'm sorry if you misinterpreted what I said" non-apology. I'm willing to be proven wrong, but I ain't seen poo poo from him yet.
