Apparently Dave tried to trade up to number 2 to take Fournette. If that's true I'm glad he got fired.

I'm a little surprised this isn't a more common practice. I guess other teams might get punished for it.

A fourth round pick was too expensive!

Ted is a fantastic GM but goddamn he's stingy. Casey Hayward was definitely worth $5 million a year, that's absolutely nothing for a CB.

Heyward's really drat good. I thought he'd be solid pickup for the Chargers but I didn't think he'd lead the league in picks either.

- overpaid with each contract he signed
- cut john kasay for olindo mare
- ignored the defensive line after 2002

I seem to recall Mare got a pretty ridiculous contact too (for a kicker), which is why I wasn't upset at him leaving Seattle.

Hurney fell apart toward the end because he began to believe way too much in his own infallibility.

He was brought in as a cap guy with minor evaluation skills and by the end of his tenure was acting like he could read tea leaves while throwing cash at guys on the downside of their career.

Gentleman might have been a dick but he put together a good roster. We need a mix of the two. Shame we lost his heir apparent to buffalo.

My feeling is that it's mostly kept in check by the fact that this requires the billionaire owner to spend more of his money which is anematha to a lot of owners.

I think that it's more that there are very few players in the NFL who can be a partner in something like that. It can really only be a QB, and there's only a few QB's that could warrant it. It's a long road from some dumb kid football player to end up dabbling in poo poo like white collar crime with shell companies and what have you.

There's a billionaire on one side and an agent on the other, they can make it work without explaining shell companies to the player.
