given what we know of peter chiarelli and jim benning, milan lucic for brandon sutter makes way too much sense to have not been on the table

That trade is far more palatable for Chiarelli than it is Benning, just because Lucic is under contract for 5 more seasons at a fair bit more money (6MM to 4.37MM). That said, the last thing Edmonton needs is a center right now.

Also, Sutter's deal doesn't become a modified NTC until next year.

I lost my mind that we went with AV over Eakins and that worked out well.

Quinn might be ok especially if gets good assistant coaches. I think what I'm most happy about is they didn't go with a retread like Suter.

I'm more than willing to give Quinn a chance and for Gorton to really remake the team in his vision. Just please keep Zuke :smith:

The Canucks are going to get hosed brutally when Luongo retires with one year left because the Aquaman won't trade for the rights to his contract.

I think there's an assumption that Hossa's faux-retirement will come with a front office gig in Chicago, which just makes the situation more fraudulent

No one in any sport officially retires until their contract ends. It was huge news when Gil Meche did it in baseball because he gave up $12 million to sit on the DL for an entire year.

there's some islanders insider on HF (I'm aware of how many issues this statement already has) who claimed a month ago that Lou was coming to the isles, and he's now saying Tavares has essentially finalized re-signing too. I'm always hesitant to get excited when it comes to the isles but please pay off this once.

I hate old school hockey thinking and Lou is basically the embodiment of it so there's a lot about this that concerns me. At the same time, he's been around forever and carries a lot of respect in that same old school hockey world and the way I see it the isles' 3 biggest concerns the next few years are-

1) Tavares re-signing
2) Convincing Ilya Sorokin to come over from the KHL
3) Getting an actual NHL coach

I feel like Lou's presence would do a ton to help the first two come true and potentially the third as well. So I'll remain cautiously optimistic even though I know the chances of the Isles trading a first round pick for Matt Martin just tripled.

The other immediate concern is fixing the defense, and looking over Toronto's current D, oh, right
