Look at this smug broken asshole.
I think the devs might have used the wrong operator for poison. Multiplying by a random number one to ten would make (aside from Poison Gas, which makes the theory less likely) poison somewhat useful.

Or, maybe it just sucks and was designed to suck. Who knows.

Nah, that + random number from 1 to 10 random variable was used in a lot of the other formulas in this game. The DS Etrian Odyssey games weren't the best at balance. It wasn't until EO4 that the devs finally figured out that Poison wasn't that great in boss fights and there was no harm in making Poison do more damage there. (the strongest Poison skill dealt 700 damage ticks) It's also the easiest ailment to inflict in EO4. And it wasn't until Untold that Poison got bumped down on the ailment Hierarchy. (although the only Poison skill worth using in that game was Viper.)

You couldn't even beat Assassincopter!!!
A variance of 1 to 10 times the base value would make Poison not only horrendously unreliable, but would either have to have a terrible base so that it wouldn't be worth using at all or would just deal stupid amounts of damage on good rolls.

Just how many mistakes have you suffered on the way here?

An uncountable number, to be sure.
The 1-10 doesn't have any balance purpose, it's just there to make it so the number isn't exactly the same every time. RPG players are used to having a small damage variance, so any time there isn't one the number gets looked at with suspicion. Not a huge deal, but in terms of game feel it can't hurt.

I mean, think about it: "within the random factor" is often used as a synonym for "negligible" so why does it even exist in the first place? Obviously it simulates rolling dice in D&D, but it's stuck around so long simply because the audience demands it. It's almost never a factor in balance: if the game wants actual random damage they'll make it do a random number of hits or have a high crit rate or something.

I think you're right in that people want it. I understand it's pointless, but then I see a game like FFT that has basically no randomness and everything is easily calculable, and it just feels off seeing the same numbers pop up over and over.

I dunno the exact numbers, but it's not super easy to land. It'll still take a lot of tries. Even with a team of 5 Nightseekers. Might be a 10% resistance or something since you can use Petrify forges to get it.

Regular updates should be resuming soon. Hopefully. Got a bit more time to work on those, and managed to record the next update. Just warning that there's gonna be another delay coming up once we get to the 11th floor. Not because of real life stuff or anything, but because I'm gonna have to do a lot of writeups about something once we get to a certain point, and I have no idea when I'm gonna finish THAT.

Good to hear. Been playing along with this one since I had a cart I'd never opened. Only game in the series I've missed, shame since it seems like a really good one. Looking forward to see how the hell they're going to balance me having access to 1TP dark ether and a bunch of skills that seem like they're only balanced by having a high TP cost like front mortar.

I just got my Nightseeker up to level 20, is Assassinate really something I should focus my points into because this sounds absurd. I know back in EO1, some of the instant death stuff was pretty crazy if you built specifically towards that. Including killing some bosses like The Golem for conditional drops and what not. I do love how this series makes all of those extra attacks and effects really useful.

Assassinate is not the same thing as Climax. Bosses are resistant to Instant Death, but they're not immune to it. But as far as I know, there's nothing really immune to it, aside from the 2 examples I listed earlier. Can't really say for certain though, cause I don't have the monster data for that game.

Yes the sprite is cut off like that in the game files. It was just too tall for the screen.

Right, so these things. Ice attacks are your best bet for dealing with them. Head binds don't have much of a chance of going through, but if you manage to land one, you can completely shut them down. Mother Dragons are dangerous because not only do they hit hard, they can lock down your party. Lullaby of Rest doesn't get used until the Mother Dragon gets below 67% of her HP, but Roar is still pretty threatening. It can shut down your support classes, and the TEC penalty from the Head bind increases Blast Assault's damage. I hope you have a way to reduce or nullify damage from Fire attacks.

Just setting up here.

So we'll roooll the old chariot along!~

An' we'll all hang on behind!~

Time to let loose.

Here's a blade in your eye! And your head! And your body!

I'm just tricky like that.

I'm demonstrating that Trickster will activate, even on Limit skills. Considering that a few of a Buccaneer's skills also let them fire off Limits sooner than other classes could, that essentially lets them have infinite or near infinite TP if you build one in such a way.

Looks like the scales were tipped in our favor.

Awww, I didn't get to play my drums. :(

Maybe later, Fang.

You really want to end fights with Mother Dragons fast. Not only does that mean you don't have to deal with their ailments that often, but the other Mother Dragons in the room will try to join in on your fight if you take too long. You could try Petrifying them with a Ninja, since that also nets you their Gold Drop, but you'll have an 18% to 19% chance at best of pulling that off.

DS Version

Once Charge is maxed out, I'll start working on Front Mortar. And maybe placing Sidney in the front lines once I do that.

Gonna kill all the FOEs in the room so I can get that sweet sweet exp. Also to make navigating this room easier on future visits.

Not all the Mother Dragons went down that easily, so I went back to town to restock on supplies.

The equipment I unlocked on this trip, though there's nothing of note here.

Ahhhh... Fighting all those dragons made me tired. Can I take a nap?

I think we could all use a break from that.

I take a rest at the inn and go back to the Labyrinth at night.

Not a great forge to make use of. After a certain point, ATK forges will increase your damage more than a STR forge will.

Now there's normally a Mother Dragon parked in front of this chest, but I happened to kill it earlier. In order to get to the chest, you'll either have to do that, or get into a battle to get it to move out of the way during the day. If it's night? You'll have to kill it.

TEC forges are nice, since ATK forges can't boost TEC damage.

More levels, more power.

Looks like this dragon is taking a little nap.

So those worms aren't the only ones that need to sleep at night.

Mother Dragons are completely immobile at night. They won't turn at all, and won't even try to join in on your battles. So navigating this Stratum at night is a good way to avoid FOE encounters.

Or you can use it to get easy preemptive strikes on all of them. When their back isn't pinned against a wall, anyway.

Ether Mastery gives an 8% boost to Elemental damage.

I can't see anything!

Ah. It seems we stumbled upon a hot spring.

Didn't one of our clients want to know more about these things or something?

You approach the steam and see hot water pouring from a rock. It seems to be a hot spring. You decide to sit here and investigate the spring for the request you accepted.

Might as well take a little dip and give it a try while we're jotting down notes. Ahh... How refreshing!

Um, Scott? You're supposed to take your clothes off before you go into a hot spring.

Eh, I'm used to it. Had a couple of nasty overboard incidents during my pirating days.

The warm water is just the right temperature to cure your exhaustion... You write down the effects of this hot spring and its coordinates. You can go back to the bar to report in, or try finding more spring sources elsewhere.

If you're not on that quest, this hot spring will actually heal your entire party for 50 HP.

And here's the last Mother Dragon in the room.

And with that Mother Dragon dead, Guild Tidehunt has orphaned several baby dragons, and disrupted the flow of the Labyrinth's ecosystem.

Eh, they'll be back in 7 days.

I'm fairly certain those weren't the only ones in the area.

Aw, did we have to kill them? I think we made all their babies sad.

They were wild animals who wanted to kill us. It was us or them, Fang.

And here's Avenger activating. I suppose there might be a few situations where it comes in handy.

That was completely and utterly humiliating.

And I didn't learn my lesson, because the same thing happened later with Cassandra. Yeah, you'd have to be really careless to let your Hoplite of all classes to die like that.

Finding all 3 hot springs will net you the maximum reward. Oh and if you're not on the quest, one of your characters will lose 50 HP because this hot spring is too hot. I go back to town to hand in my quest report.

DS Version

Stun Gas has a chance to inflict Paralysis, not Stun, on all enemies. Not that useful, to be honest.

Welcome back! Did you find the source for the hot springs? Fantastic!

She has a couple of different things to say, depending on how many hot springs you found. If you only found 1:

Hmm... So the hot springs are in the Labyrinth, too. Do you think they’re safe to bathe in?

If you found 2 of them:

Wow, you found two sources!? I’m sure Ottie will be pleased!

If you found all 3:

Wow, you found three sources!? I bet Ottie’s gonna be really pleased about that! Say... Have you ever tried the hot springs here in Armoroad? There is a famous resort here. The springs are popular among explorers, too! I love the hot springs! Nothing is beating a good hot bath after I close the bar! You should relax it back and kick in the hot springs once in a while, too! Well, here is your reward. Nicely done!

You only get 2000en if you only found 1, and 2500en if you found 2.

And a level up for Fang.

Beast Soul gives Fang's animals a 40% HP increase, a 62% ATK increase, and a 40% DEF increase.

Back in the Labyrinth, Cassandra gets a very important level up.

Because now Anticold completely nullifies Ice attacks. No one in the party will take damage from them for the turn, and if the attack had a secondary effect, like inflicting an ailment, the secondary effect will also be nullified. The Anti skills are very strong once maxed out, and are some of the best defensive skills in the game. No wonder they got removed in EO4.

DS Version

Man, I really hope there's not much more magma that we have to walk through.

:negative:

Oh my.

Oh quit your whining. We bought all those Guard Soles for a reason.

:toot:

Now that Charge is maxed out, I'm gonna work on maxing out Front Mortar. We're gonna be seeing some big damage numbers soon enough! :flashfap:

D3 Chop Point:
Trileaf Stalk: 50% Gather Rate.
Pagoda Branch: 50% Gather Rate.
Poinciana Pod: Rare.
Common Gather Periods: 2 to 12.
Rare Gather Periods: 1 to 5.

Aw, shiiii-oooot.

Don't think you'll get away with taking down my fellow crew mates!

*blub blub blub*

Pictured: The result of those damage tiles lowering my party's HP enough for the enemies to kill my party members easily, and me being too lazy to heal up.

This is a pretty big room with lots of damage tiles.

And now we won't have to walk all the way around just to get back to this room.

Bury me at sea...

Really, Scott? Really?

Olympia points out a rocky wall to the north beyond the scorching ground.

The room in the center of this path is the Hall of Conviction, your destination. Proceed.

It seems that your first priority should be to meet with the Eldest One of the Deep Ones.

Um, thanks. I guess.

Okay, now let's get on with the mission.

Wait no screw that, there's a Pasaran to be killed!

Ugh, never mind. It's pretty much gone.

Video: The Deep Ones

Olympia points to the door behind you and moves on. It seems the intense heat affects her little.

Beyond this special door is the Hall of Conviction and the Deep One. Have a care.

Olympia then produces a key and uses it to open the door before you.

DS Version

It appears human, yet aspects of it are clearly other. It looks somewhat like a young boy, but its crimson eyes glow eerily as they gaze at you.

What the hell is that thing?

I guess that's the Deep One they were talking about.

Huh?

Behind me! Now!

DS Version

And we've got a mini-boss here. It's also a pretty tough one if you don't know how to deal with them.

Deep One
HP: 1738
TP: 152
STR: 35
VIT: 34
AGI: 26
LUC:27
TEC: 30
Attack Type: Slash
Exp: 3617
Item Drops: N/A
Description: N/A
Damage Resistances: Slash: 50% Strike: 50% Pierce: 50% Fire: 150% Ice: 150% Volt: 150%
Ailment Resistances: Sleep: 122% Confusion: 50% Plague: 50% Poison: 50% Blind: 122% Curse: 50% Paralysis: 122%
Bind Resistances: Head: 50% Arm: 50% Leg: 50%
Other Resistances: Death: 1% Petrification: 1% Stun: 50%

Skills:

Cover: Does not use a body part. Protects an ally and takes damage in their place. Has an action speed of +20.
Leaping Slash: Uses the Arms. Deals 80% Slash damage to the front row.
Crystal Edge: Uses the Legs. Chaser skill. Deals 80% Slash damage to anyone that got hit by an Ice attack. Has an action speed of +60.

The Deep One is a physical attacker and is resistant to physical attacks himself. He'll work together with the Deep Lady to give your party a hard time. Cover will have him take all damage in the Deep Lady's place, and Leaping Slash hits pretty hard. Sleep, Blind, and Paralysis can be used to deal with him, and hopefully make him a lot less threatening.

There's a little mistranslation in the fight. When the Deep One gets ready to use Crystal Edge, the game says it's preparing a counterattack. That's not the case. It's a chaser skill and he's waiting for the Deep Lady to pelt your party with an Ice attack. If you don't deal with the Deep Lady's Zone Icicle skill properly, this skill can finish your party off, or leave them really low. Speaking of the Deep Lady...

Deep Lady
HP: 2208
TP: 152
STR: 32
VIT: 31
AGI: 23
LUC: 25
TEC: 34
Attack Type: Pierce
Exp: 3602

Bind Resistances: Head: 122% Arm: 122% Leg: 122%
Other Resistances: Death: 1% Petrification: 1% Stun: 122%

Skills:

Dis-element: Uses the Head. Increases all enemies' resistances to elemental attacks by 50% for 4 turns.
Zone Icicle: Uses the Head. Deals 50% Ice damage to the entire party.

The Deep Lady will always cast Dis-element on the first turn, eliminating the Deep One's elemental weakness, and making the Deep Lady immune to elemental attacks. Yes, this prevents Singularity from activating, so you want to get rid of the buff with Ad Nihilo, or a Metapon. She'll recast the skill every 3 turns. This makes Cover extra annoying to deal with, since the Deep One won't be taking that much damage from elemental attacks, and prevent you from getting to the Deep Lady. Zone Icicle hits hard, and the Deep One will try to use Crystal Edge to capitalize on it. If you block Zone Icicle with a max level Anticold, Crystal Edge will still activate and hit everyone. But if you block it with Ice Prophecy, Crystal Edge won't activate at all. If you manage to head bind the Deep Lady, which is easy to pull of since she's super susceptible to them, she'll be completely shut down.

If you're wondering why neither of them have descriptions, these enemies don't get registered in the Monster Codex for some reason.

A lot of my decisions here were really dumb, for reasons you'll see in a bit.

Let's go!

Line Guard turned out to be completely unnecessary.

Because I forgot that the Deep One always casts cover on the first turn.

Wha!? That wasn't meant for you!

Fascinating. So they're intelligent enough to protect others when necessary.

Ah, it was still worth a shot.

And now elemental attacks won't do much.

Charge into them!

However, Cover was a big mistake on the Deep One's part.

Because he gave the elephant 2 chances to inflict Confusion on it. Now he can't cooperate with the Deep Lady at all, making the fight a lot easier.

Nice going, Fang!

I've got my eyes on ya.

I don't really care about the Deep One's physical attacks, so I have Cassandra get ready to block Zone Icicle.

Shishkebabed!

That was a good amount of damage, but I was mainly hoping to Head bind her.

Your icy magic cannot bypass my shield.

Well it turns out the Head bind wasn't necessary, because the elephant managed to confuse her.

Roar.

Try to control yourself, Sidney.

Not the effect I was hoping for. I was hoping it would dispel the buff, but since they're confused, it should increase the damage of the party's physical attacks by a lot.

OOGA BOOGA! :rimshot:

Especially when Primal Drums gets stacked on top of that.

Gonna dispel that resistance buff.

Go away voodoo magic! Or whatever.

Not so tough without your ally's magic spells, hmm?

I originally planned on having Sidney make use of Front Mortar in this fight, but I decided against it.

Silence!

Geez, I didn't expect to get into a tussle.

DS Version

Don't think you're out of the woods yet once you beat them.

Its eyes are filled with joy and wonder; it is clear that it takes delight in your presence. Despite its rapt expression, you wonder when its blood and flesh will again become monsters... You are not quite sure whether to draw arms and attack, or attempt to parley with it.

Ready to see a real dick move?

The 2nd and 3rd options will advance the plot. But if you pick the 1st option, or accidentally picked it by mashing through the text...

Let's kill it while we have the chance!

Sidney, I don't think that's a good idea!

Trapt beneath the Ground as I am, 'tis to be expected that my Power is diminisht.

As you draw near, weapons at the ready, the child sighs while swinging one of its hands.

DS Version

You have got to be kidding me.

Yeah that's right. You get into the exact same fight again! I hope you didn't have too much trouble with them in the first fight!

Wild guess but I'm gonna guess it's the latin-y way of saying fish-like, like vulpine and foxes?

It's hilarious how dedicated Edie is to ripping you off. :allears:

I wonder how many enemies in the series are recurring. I know that elephant is in EOU (and possibly EO1?) and Trip Mushrooms were in EO4.

So Dragon Pups can call FOEs into battle like Ancient Hermit. That's pretty mean for the third Stratum.

I wish I knew what I was doing when I got here. :downs: I didn't have any elemental coverage on my Hoplite so I couldn't deal with the dragons quickly and it was a tough fight since I was relying on my arbalist and Zodiac exclusively.

Also, you've used the Guardian Ant's picture for both the ants' pictures.

Enemie sprites/models are reused here and there, but their abilities, names and even drops change between games, so you're technically facing a different enemy. And then there's lategame recolours and such.

Pretty much the only enemy I can think of that stays more or less the same between every game is Petaloids.

loving Petaloids. The closest they ever get to being different is being beefy as hell.

And the variants in EOIV that do different statuses rather than just being slightly tougher, I guess.

Eh, if you're not dedicated to stepping on every single tile on the map, Guard Soles are fine. I was just making a joke.

It's not until the 11th and 12th floors that Dragon Pups are actually a threat. If they manage to hatch from a Dragon Egg on the 9th and 10th floors, they'll rarely call for their mothers.

They're fish people actually. More specifically, they're the Deep Ones from one of H.P. Lovecraft's stories. Yes, the game actually goes there.

Yeah. Untold 2 shook things up even further by promoting regular enemies to FOEs, and demoting FOEs to regular enemies.

Next update is gonna have a :siren:plot dump.:siren:

Oh and voting for the party for the next Sea Quest. And then the update after that will be another party shuffle. And then later on there a major vote that will completely change how the rest of this LP plays out. But who cares about that last thing?

Update 36: The Deep City's History

I don't think Flowdia's gonna be happy to hear about this. Hmm, what should we do... I know! I'll just let Faye decide! She's the leader after all!

Fortunately, I managed to get through the second fight easily.

DS Version

The text is the same as before.

And yes, you can get into a 3rd fight. Then a 4th fight. Then a 5th. And it'll keep going until you pick the 2nd or 3rd options.

W-wait! W-we don't mean any harm! Honest!

No Harm? Do you or don’t you, ’tis one to me. What is your Reason for coming here?

As the child seems to understand your tongue, you tell him of your quest to meet the Deep One here.

We were assigned a mission from the Abyssal King to meet the Deep One in this place.

Deep One... Such a foolish Name have the Sons of Man given to my People.

The child’s sneering words drip with venom as its crimson eyes continue to gaze at you.

If you come not as Sacrifices to me, hie hence. Contrary to all Appearances, I am rather busy.

The being you know as the Deep One then closes its eyes and ceases all movement.

Olympia speaks, having apparently entered the room without you noticing.

This childlike thing is their king, called the Eldest One. You have seen how it spawns. The Abyssal King captured it over 100 years ago. It has been sealed in this Hall ever since.

I am not King yet... In Human Terms, I would be something like a Prince or Princess.

You know now of the Deep Ones. Your duty to the Abyssal King has been discharged.

Olympia then directs you to return to the Celestial Palace to meet again with the Abyssal King.

After looking once more at Olympia and the Deep One, you decide to quit this hall of horrors.

DS Version

Yeesh. Glad to be out of that place.

I suppose we should report back to the Abyssal King about our encounter.

Hmm, how about we explore more of this floor? I'm sure he won't mind waiting a bit longer for our report.

Olympia stands before the door, blocking your passage. It would be best to return to the Deep City for now and inform the Abyssal King of your meeting.

Or I guess he would. Let's go.

This roadblock is actually pretty annoying, because Olympia is blocking the way to a campsite, and as you can see on the map, a more convenient shortcut. :argh:

DS Version

Time to hand in our report.

DS Version

DS Version

What you met was their Eldest One, a dreadful thing who dwells in the abyss and spawns young. When I learned of that threat as Armoroad’s last king, I fulfilled my duties to protect mankind. Ancient lore of the royal family speaks of evil presences lurking in that abyss. Our source was Yggdrasil, the mysterious yet wise tree that towers in the center of our city. Yggdrasil granted us with superior technology; in return, we swore to protect it from the evil. I accepted, and submerged a part of Armoroad to the ocean’s floor. We fight that evil to this day.

...Ya lost me.

I'm afraid I'm finding this difficult to follow as well.

...Am I giving you too much to digest? It is important that you understand this matter. If you have any remaining doubts, then loosen your tongues.

Armoroad doesn't have a king anymore. So you were the last one?

You have the right of it. As the only male heir from Armoroad, I am the last of the royal line. In a more peaceful time, I would have wed and lived a normal life... But the Calamity that transpired 100 years ago forever changed my fate. According to Yggdrasil, that great quake caused the evil slumbering deep within the earth to awaken. At that time, the evilspawn rose to Armoroad, resulting in many gruesome assaults on the people... Yggdrasil claimed that only by sinking to the abyss could I prevent the evil from stirring. I obeyed, and submerged part of Armoroad, along with soldiers who vowed to fight the evil with me. We did this to save hundreds whose descendants still live above. Such is the duty of a king.

Wait wait wait. You're saying that Yggdrasil told you to do this and that. Is it alive or something? Just what is it?

Yggdrasil is the World Tree. It may be difficult to credit, but I can converse with Yggdrasil. Since ancient times, only those of Armoroad’s royal family have had this skill. It was knowledge gleaned from Yggdrasil that brought advanced technology to Armoroad. But it is not necessary for you to believe me. So long as both Yggdrasil and I know...

There's something I've been wondering. What is Olympia? She's not a human, that's for sure. She's some kind of robot, I think?

Olympia is my faithful friend and servant. She is a powerful woman who supports me in my struggle. But that was not the intent of your question, was it...? She is not human. Hers is a life born from the forbidden knowledge given to me by Yggdrasil. She moves and speaks as humans do, yet her strength is far mightier... Try and treat her as you would a normal person.

A new option appears after asking everything else, and you can progress with the plot.

I'm concerned about this "evil" you mentioned. Could you tell us more about it?

The king of the Deep Ones I had you meet... Better to call it a god. For them, that is. For humanity, it may as well be a demon. The Deep Ones revere it as it slumbers deep underground. Yggdrasil seals it from awakening and running amok. That is the large tree’s chief purpose. Perhaps you think all this quite absurd, but remember what you saw below, and try to understand. But I have not explained yet why only the Deep City deals with this evil. I shall now do so. ...The evil lurking in the abyss is aware of humanity, and thrives on emotions such as fear. Should Armoroad’s populace learn of this evil’s existence, even Yggdrasil could not hold it... And so, the fewer who know of the evil, the better. That is why we of the Deep City hide ourselves.

So that's why you had all those explorers ki-

I see. So that's why you tried to enlist our help after our arrival. Now that Armoroad found out about the Deep City, there was no point in hiding its existence anymore.

Now that you know this truth... You are honor-bound to join our struggle against the Deep Ones. But first, I should reward your service in traveling to the Hall of Conviction as I asked. Take this. It is also a king’s duty to encourage fine work, after all.

DS Version

More level ups! :toot:

DS Version

No:

Do we have to?

Fang!

What’s this...? What I have to say concerns you. Protocol demands you at least lend an ear. Explain it to them, Olympia.

Yes:

Very well.

Good. Tell them, Olympia.

Some have even passed the Hall of Conviction in the Third Stratum. Going as far as they have means provoking the Deep Ones. This is bad for all concerned. It would be better if you went to dissuade them, rather than myself. ...That is all.

Try to resolve this as peacefully as possible. I am relying on your skill, explorers from Armoroad.

Oh boy. I don't think the Senatus is gonna be happy to hear about that.

I certainly hope we're not exempt from exploring any further.

Well, Faye should know about this. And just transpired in there at the very least.

Now that everyone has gained a level, let's spend their skill points.

Our resistance is just too much for you.

I start leveling up Antivolt, since I want it at a decently high level once I reach the 4th Stratum, and maxed out once I reach the 5th.

Scott gains power.

Front Mortar deals 80% damage from the back row, and a whopping 296% damage from the front row.

Ether Mastery increases the power of Asteria's elemental attacks by 10%.

Beast Soul increases the animals' HP by 45%, their attack by 68%, and their defense by 45%. I unlocked more equipment in the store, though there's not much of note.

The Fortune Choker is an upgrade over the Lucky Choker, giving a +5 boost to LUC instead of +3. Now that we got a lot of plot dumped on us, this would be a good time to do another Sea Quest!

DS Version

Despite the fact that you can't reach Sheba before finding the ruins, Sheba's quests are easier than the Ruins' quests, so we'll look at those first.

Laura
Class: Hoplite
Weapon: Spear
Skillset:
-Recuperate: Level 6
-Parry: Level 3
-Magic Parry: Level 3
-Blitzritter: Level 8
-Shrug Off: Level 3
Supplies:
-3 Amrita IIs

I'm just gonna cut to the chase and say that Laura is USELESS! A Hoplite's job is to protect other people and provide defensive support to the party. Laura does not do any of that. The defensive skills she has benefit her and her only. She even has an offensive skill (Blitzritter), which you don't want a Hoplite wasting their skill points on. Mainly because they have noodle arms and can't do a lot of damage with it. Blitzritter deals Volt/Pierce damage, and the boss is resistant to Volt attacks. Thankfully that's a moot point, since it isn't resistant to Pierce attacks. The boss does have minions to assist them, and they are weak to Bliztritter. Still, treat her like an empty slot, because that's really all she is. This is actually one of the tougher Sea Quests if you bring an unprepared party, because the NPC ally you get here barely does anything to help. Bring 4 of your best party members for this one.

Oh and if you're wondering about the lack of a subclass, none of the Sea Quest NPCs have one. They all stick with their main class.

Tokashiki
Class: Buccaneer
Weapon: Gun
Skillset:
-Trickster: Level 5
-Swashbuckling: Level 6
-Rapid Fire: Level 6
-Pincushion: Level 3
Supplies: None

Oh hey, an actually useful NPC. Tokashiki is one of the main damage dealers for this fight, dealing a decent amount of Pierce damage to the enemies.

Ouha
Class: Buccaneer
Weapon: Rapier
Skillset:
-Chase Thrust: Level 8
-Eagle Eye: Level 5
Supplies:
-1 Amrita II

And Ouha supports his father by decreasing the enemies' defenses with Eagle Eye, and following up on his father's attacks with Chase Thrust. If you bring along party members that deal Pierce damage, Ouha can do even more damage with his Chaser. One of the easier Sea Quests by virtue of having NPCs that actually contribute. Bring a mix of damage dealers and supports. Preferably supports, since the boss and its minions can shut your party down.

Mito
Class: Prince
Weapon: Sword
Skillset:
-Nobility Proof: Level 5
-Royal Veil: Level 5
-Reinforce: Level 5
-Nobility Proof: Level 5
-Attack Order: Level 6
-Fire Arms: Level 5
-Regal Radiance: Level 5
Supplies:
-3 Medica IIs
-1 Amrita II

Whoa, look at that skill list! Mito is a decent support in this fight. He'll try to increase the party's attack, and make heavy use of Regal Radiance. It's handy for clearing out the boss' minions.

Skaide
Class: Hoplite
Weapon: Spear
Skillset:
-Recuperate: Level 3
-Parry: Level 3
-Magic Parry: Level 3
-Line Guard: Level 5
-Anticold: Level 10
-Antivolt: Level 5
-Bodyguard: Level 3
-Shrug Off: Level 3
Supplies:
-1 Amrita

Well look at that. A Hoplite with a good skillset! Don't rely on her too much, through. She'll try to defend the party from the boss' attacks, but she's a bit unreliable. Sometimes she'll use her skills at the right times, and sometimes she won't.

Kirks
Class: Zodiac
Weapon: Book
Skillset:
-Singularity: Level 5
-Fire Star: Level 5
-Binary Fire: Level 3
-Volt Star: Level 5
Supplies:
-3 Amrita IIs

And Kirks is the main damage dealer in this party. The boss in question is weak to Fire attacks, so she'll fire them off pretty often at it. Unfortunately, said boss can also make itself immune to Fire attacks, so that's why she has Volt Star. It's a fallback option in case that happens. Also one of the easier Sea Quests since the NPCs are helpful. Bring whoever you want, but I suggest bringing someone who can deal with ailments. Let's see what our guild has to offer these people.

This fight was the very reason I wanted Anticold to be at max level. The boss has some AOE Ice attacks that deals a decent amount of damage, but has some very nasty secondary effects. One of them puts your entire party to Sleep, while the other lowers their physical damage output for 4 turns. Anyways, Cassandra is our defensive support, and a very good one to bring along to the fight.

Scott is one of our best physical attackers at the moment, what with the Jolly Roger and all. A Head bind can help seal off some of the boss' attacks, but he can only do that once.

Sidney is also another one of our strongest physical attackers, thanks to Front Mortar. He doesn't hit as hard as Scott, but he has access to AOEs. Which can come in handy because the boss has minions to help it out. However, one of the minions has a skill they cast upon dying, which Confuses the entire party. So that's something to be aware of.

Asteria is our elemental attacker, and one of our best damage dealers. She can deal a lot of damage with her Fire attacks, since the boss is weak to them. And because of that, you'd think Hellfire would be a great Limit to use for these Sea Quests, right? Unfortunately, that's not the case. The boss in question loves to place a buff on itself to make it immune to Fire attacks, and it has minions to help it out. If the minions get killed, the boss will re-summon them pretty quickly. And that makes random target attacks a lot less effective. However, it's not all bad. Asteria does have access to AOE skills, and skills that activate on death won't do so to pure elemental attacks. So she can take out some of the minions without subjecting the whole party to Confusion. And Hellfire can be used to deal a lot of damage, but you'll have to do quite a bit of planning to pull that off. You still want elemental damage for the minions, though.

Fang's elephant can be used to get some crowd control going since it can inflict Confusion fairly easily on the minions. Confusion will also disable the on death skills that some of the minions will cast, so that's a good way of shutting them down. But the boss is super resistant to it, so it can only be inflicted once. Primal Drums is also a good debuff to make use of.

Oh, and a word of warning. :siren:Be careful about using Call Tiger in any of the Sheba Sea Quests!:siren: The instant kill from the initial attack has a very nasty bug associated with it. If it happens to kill 2 specific enemies in this quest at the same time, the game will freeze.

Higher and higher I go!

Get down from there before you hurt yourself.

Limit Boost is a very handy passive. Every turn, a character gains 5 to 15 points of Limit, depending on what they do. Limit Boost raises the minimum amount of Limit you can get per turn. At level 4, it increases Limit gain by 8, so Susan will always gain 13 to 15 points of Limit per turn. Meaning that she can refill her Limit Gauge in 8 turns at the most.

Susan is a really good support to bring along to the fight. The boss likes to buff itself so that Fire attacks won't work against it. Well Ad Nihilo takes care of that nicely, and Susan also has Prevent Order to protect the team from whatever ailments the boss and its minions throw out at the party.

Blade Rave now hits from 3 to 5 times, dealing 90% damage per hit. Meaning its average damage output is 360%.

Rose is our durable physical attacker and a safe choice to bring along. With that said, Blade Rave doesn't work all that well in this fight since the boss loves summoning minions.

Earth's Bounty now increases the exp gain by 30%.

Alice isn't gonna be too useful in this fight. Even though she has the ability to instantly kill enemies, the minions are pretty resistant to Instant Death. She only has a 12% to 14% chance of getting pickoffs that way.

:getin:

Rally Order increases the max HP of a row by 43% at level 5, and 70% at level 10. Getting Rally Order to level 5 unlocked a very good skill.

I'll protect you all!

Say hello to the best healing skill in the entire game! What Protect Order does is that it places a buff on a row that will heal them for a certain amount at the end of the turn for 3 turns. The amount healed follows this formula: TEC * Protect Order Skill Power + a random number from 0 to 5. At level 1, the skill power is 105%. Now believe it or not, that random number from 0 to 5 is actually a very important component of that formula. Because it means that Protect Order is a form of non-fixed healing, which means that Form Qi works with it! So at this point, Protect Order will heal a row for 56 to 61 HP for 3 turns. That's fantastic proactive healing, and means that aside from the initial cast, Faye won't have to lift a finger to heal people. Protect Order lets her do whatever else for a few turns. Oh and a word of warning. Protect Order will not heal the row on the turn it's about to wear off, so be aware of that.

So Faye is our healer, and a really good one at that. She can also heal up any ailments that are inflicted on the party for the fight.

Leveling up Otori to 3 unlocks this skill.

Otori now has a maximum Provoke value of 7. Now I'm not gonna get Nikudan (Translation: Human Bullet) just yet.

Instead, I'm gonna level up Knife Mastery to 5 to unlock this skill.

Knife Mastery increases the damage done by regular attacks by 6%.

Akatsuki is also not a great party member to bring along. There's not much he can do aside from maybe getting a lucky Izuna off. Though he gives us the ability to fight with 6 people at least.

Vote for 3 people you want to see partake in these Sea Quests. Votes must be bolded.
