For shits and giggles you should mail him back and say that you think this is totally messed up and you are gonna call the cops RIGHT NOW, see how he responds. That's rude. Not to mention he'd probably just go to someone different and lose us this awesome opportunity at being hero's. Plus, think about it. If you call the cops for some chick that went missing and you don't even know her, you'll probably get arrested for false information. I'm sure the guy has thought of that.

This seems like an odd piece of the puzzle if it is an ARG. How would these further the storyline, other than creating fear?

This is one of the best (hopefully) ARG's I've ever seen - there's a definite sense of purpose and urgency to it, aside from just "Keep decoding things and you'll get a .gif that says congratulations at the end!" Can anyone make out the text on the envelope, that isn't obscured by the pen?

I wasn't seriously suggesting he should do it, just illustrating my point that this is clearly an ARG, and the bit about the police serves to allow the player and the gamemaster to indicate to each other that they know what's up without seriously breaching the immersion of the game. When I notice these sorts of things in any kind of game, my first instict is to try to break the game, to test the boundaries and see how robust it is vv

Klauser posted:It's an ARG. Maybe creating fear is precisely the point of this update. that bugged me as well, considering the rest of the sentence was grammatically correct. Maybe it's just part of the fear angle, considering that it would imply that something (like a person) was coming after him, not just an idle threat as 'what's coming to you' would imply.

EMAIL I got this in the budgie email, but I can't tell if it's a goon or not. It's from ichkannihnenhelfen@x.y (I can help you) quote:Sie sind ein Pfandgegenstand in seinem Spiel gerecht Stoppen My german is really bad, but as far as I can tell it means "You're a deposit bottle in his game stop immediately before it's too late" or similar. Someone who speaks German better should translate. Edit: Replied with "Entschuldigung, meine Deutsch sind nicht so gut. Wer meinen Sie? Wessen Spiel?" i dont speak german, but a quick babelfish of that email produced "ich kann ihnen helfen" which translated into "i can help them" Also, luigi, that would make sense, given the newest email. Good catch. edit: babelfished the sentence, and despite it not being the best source for online translations, it did come up with this: "They are fair a pledge article in its play to stopping It now, before it is too late" A reference to this thread maybe? If the "closeup of the splotch on the ground" really was that, I feel like that photo would also be in black and white to illustrate the connection. Also if you take that photo and rotate it 90 degrees counter clockwise it almost looks like a bear with water running at its feet. Maybe a cave of some sort. Although the upper part is not defined.
