Jesus Christ what would ever compel someone to reference a player’s dad’s tragic death like that

I think it was a reference to this, which is possibly even more hosed up:

quote:

In August 1993, just 15 months after Kevin Porter Jr.’s oldest sister, Keayanna, was born, Kevin Porter Sr. was charged with first-degree murder of a 14-year-old girl. The only witness to the incident initially told police that Porter Sr. was in his car with the girl, pointed a gun at her, told her he was going to shoot her, and then pulled the trigger.

However, the witness, who was the girl’s friend, later recanted her statement that the shooting was intentional. Porter Sr. had said that the young woman had asked to see his semiautomatic weapon, which was loaded and cocked, and it accidentally discharged while he was handing it to her. Porter Sr.’s attorney said the witness had been pressured to say the things she did by the family of the young woman that was killed. Kevin Porter Sr. pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

I saw a few people speculating that he thought KPJ was the son of Kevin Porter who played for the Bullets back in the day, and that he didn't actually know KPJ's dad was involved in a fatal shooting, which is plausible I guess?

That has to be it. They'll fire him anyway but that's got to be what happened.

Bio says Lance Stephenson is only 31. Wow. It feels like he's been out of the league forever. However he was a rookie in 2010. He's only been out of the NBA since 2018. It really feels like a decade later. I blame Covid.

that'd be such an enormous coincidence lol. imagine being like "oh i'm gonna show off my knowledge that his dad was a hooper using a gun metaphor for shooting" and finding that out later. I'd probably implode with guilt and self-cringe
