Add in Kokichi nearly succeeding and this is probably the closest anyone has come to beating the killing game without the mastermind confrontation.

The script is an incredible detail. Of course Kokichi sat down, slowly dying of poisoning, and wrote lots of obnoxious posthumous lines for himself while Kaito did all the work of actually setting up the murder. Goddammit, Kokichi.

So, if my understanding is correct, Kokichi hated the Killing Game from the very outset and wanted to end it, but discouraged Kaede from having them run through the escape challenge (which admittedly would've been pointless in the end), sent Gonta to his death, and generally antagonized everyone because he was LARPing as enjoying the Killing Game. And all of this because, uh...
