If you can pull it off, having a loss leader isn’t a bad strategy. Sell a boatload of solid entry models to push the brand. Later you can recognize economies of scale and cash in on luxury versions of that foundational tech. Throw in leasing and financing services, too. ...though, probably not if you can’t cobble together a working batch of your bottom-of-the-line model.
