Directed by: Takeshi Kitano Starring: Takeshi Kitano, Tadanobu Asano Zatôichi is a very strange, but rather apealing samurai movie, about a blind massager(Kitano)who stumbles across a village, in which clans struggle over power and the right to repress protection money. It´s a journey through different genres, featuring comedic, tragic, slapstick and action scenes. It shows western paterns in an eastern setting in a very unique way. The problem is, that the movie has quite a few long and boring passages, and because of this it is not as entertaining as it could have been. One thing Kitano does,par excellance, is the switching between making the audience laugh in one scene, be shocked by some brutal battle in the next, and making them thoughtful in the end. When the movie was over I didn´t quite know what to make of this movie. It´s a very strange but nonetheless interesting flick, which you should watch if you like Takeshi Kitanos works.
