Directed by: Yuen Wo Ping
Starring: Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh

If not for Fist of Legend, Twin Warriors would be Jet Li's finest movie. For those of you new to Jet Li, please put aside all preconceived notions of the man based on his performances in The One and Cradle 2 the Grave, we all know (or can imagine) there is a major difference in hong kong "action movies" and american "action movies", most notably: plot.

Twin Warriors follows the story of two best friends, Jun Bao (Jet Li) and Chin Bo (Sin-Hou Chan / Ting-An from "Fist of Legend") as they are evicted from their shaolin temple and the order of monks, and begin their new lives as normal people. At this point we've already seen one of the movie's best fight scenes, but fear not -- there are more!

Eventually the friends split up on their own paths and find themselves on opposite sides of the coin...

Twin Warriors is directed by Yuen Wo Ping, who has also made a name for himself by choreographing the action and kung-fu scenes in movies such as: The Matrix series, Kill Bill 2, Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Fist of Legend and a slew of other big-name chinese movies.

I highly recommend this movie as both a kung-fu flick and as an action movie in general.

RATING: 4.5

PROS: Stunning fight scenes, an actual plot!
CONS: Overuse of wires in latter half

"Something witty."
I own this movie under the title "The Tai Chi Master", and while I don't believe it to be as good as Woo-ping's Iron Monkey or Wing Chun, two other wirework heavy period kung fu flicks that he also made around the same time, it is still an extremely entertaining movie with some outrageous fights and a great supporting turn by Michelle Yeoh.

4.5/5
