Directed by: Akira Kurosawa Starring: Akira Terao, Martin Scorsese, and a lot more This was the first Kurosawa I ever saw. I liked it a lot at the time, but having seen 19 additional movies by him since then, I realize how much it pales in comparison. The post-nuclear story ("The Weeping Demon") is the worst of the bunch. Didn't care much for the Van Gogh bit either, or the city in flames ("Mt. Fuji in Red"). "The Blizzard" was decent, but drags on a bit too long. The remaining four segments are good to excellent, but considered as a whole they're dragged down by the lesser ones. RATING: 3 PROS: some very good segments; beautiful cinematography CONS: some rather poor segments ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100998/ FitFortDanga fucked around with this message at 23:27 on Jan 26, 2005 |
