Directed by: Ingmar Bergman Starring: Max von Sydow, Liv Ullmann, Bibi Andersson, Erland Josephson Bergman has little to say in this one, very short on ideas and insight. The post-modernist experimentation that worked so beautifully in Persona here is forced and unwelcome. He's obviously struggling, resorting to unnecessary improvisation and uninspired trickery. I would say he should have taken some time off, but perhaps it's best that he got this one out of his system. One of the least rewarding Bergmans I've seen. It does have its moments, of course, but they are few and far between, and of little impact in comparison to his stronger works. RATING: 3 PROS: worth a look CONS: experimental misfire ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064793/
