Hidden Fortress is fantastic, definitely my favorite of the Kurosawas I've seen so far. I also prefer Sanjuro to Yojimbo.

WATCH HIGH AND LOW I haven't seen the sequel, but The Raid is an incredible martial arts movie. I'm not squeamish at all, but the way those dudes bust each other up in that film is horrifying. As far as Miyazaki, I can't stand Totoro. I think Porco Rosso or Nausicaa are much stronger films.

Anyone have any issues with their orders from that flash sale? I received shipping info and a tracking number but it's been stalled at a facility in Kentucky and so far I'm out $50. Called USPS, who were incredibly unhelpful, and emailed the Criterion help email but that was last week and still no response. Is there some other contact I can use?

So far, of the 3 discs I've gotten around to watching, 3 have issues with skipping and not playing properly. I've never had this issue before with any other Blu-ray I have. Did they ever get back to you on this? My set is doing the same thing. The second movie is completely unplayable, it always stutters and eventually freezes for good 31 minutes in.

They're not a big company, and so I'm willing to accept that their customer service department might be a little slower than I would prefer. Part of me imagines that there's someone who spends an hour or two every day going through emails before getting back to other work. And I imagine that their email can be filled with variety of legitimate needs and people kvetching about something minor like "I notice that this release isn't as grainy as I like!" Just curious, did they ever give you an update on your set issues? My email has gone unanswered for nearly three weeks now.

Detective No. 27 posted:The Lone Wolf and Cub set is great so far. I've read a decent amount of the manga, but I didn't expect it to be so close to it. The first movie was probably the most brutal samurai movie I've ever seen. (Mostly seen Kurosawa's stuff and Zatoichi films) I'm less than two minutes into the second movie and he's already killed two dudes. This movie doesn't gently caress around. Yeah, this is definitely my favorite Criterion in a long time. I love that surprise moment near the end of the first movie where he pulls all the staff-sword pieces off of the baby cart, and then immediately lops a guy's legs off. Speaking of samurai sets, I've now emailed two separate Criterion folks about the issues with my Zatoichi set and gotten zero replies. Emailed mulvaney back in august, and orders@criterion three weeks ago. Who am I supposed to contact now? I just want a functional set.

I know its based on a manga series, is it only for people who are into manga and anime or would it have a wider appeal? I love stuff like Lady Snowblood and the Samurai Trilogy(Inagaki's), just for reference. Lady Snowblood and Lone Wolf & Cub are both based on manga written by Kazuo Koike. LW&C is fun, you'll like it.
