Victory records: a discussion... (1/34)

Out of curiosity, I decided to check out their website to see what they've been up to, since it's been over seven years since they announced they'll be cutting back touring in order to release new music. Almost exactly a year ago (Dec 6 2019) they announced...they'd be cutting back touring in order to release new music lmao

I guess to be fair, they likely didn't have very much touring happening this past year!

Yeah they've said they've been in the studio for like ten years now. I actually don't doubt that they have been, either. It's just that Kalnoky is a super perfectionist and honestly without a studio pressuring him I'm not certain he can actually get anything finished.

I heavily suspect their conflict with Victory Records wasn't entirely one-sided. Obviously Victory pulled some shady poo poo and I'm not one to defend a bit corporation, but also I imagine trying to get Kalnoky to finish an album on time is like trying to get water from a stone.

Y’all listen to this? Because I’ve been obsessed. A ska concept album about struggling with sobriety couched in screen addiction to anime. Just some crazy good songwriting on display. And the specials cover is amazing.

This might be a weird question, but what the hell. Does anyone remember a band named Dizzybam?

This would have been in the early, early 90's. I remember seeing them all over the San Francisco Bay Area back in the day. They were a mainstay of opening lineups for Ska shows at the time, along with bands like Hepcat, Save Ferris, DHC and Pre-Tragic Kingdom No Doubt.

They billed themselves as "SkaFunkRastaPunk" and had one of the best sounding brass lineups I've ever heard live. Of course, this could just be my memory polishing itself.
I never got any of their recording, if they made any, and life moved me out of the area eventually and I forgot about them.

Just wanted to know if anyone else remembered them.

Don't remember them personally, and googling doesn't turn up any actual music. However, there are some delightfully 90s internet lists of shows at universities in the area that confirms they did exist! http://theory.stanford.edu/~donald/list/4-15-94

I remember I used to listen to the radio show Loveline with Adam Carolla, and lmao Dicky came on a few times and was good friends with Carolla. Makes a bit more sense, now.

Anyone have a rip of the ASOB Pascal Party show? The old link (http://www.snevesneve.com/jaytea/thepascalparty/split/) now redirects to a tweet that can't be seen lmao. Google turns up pretty much nothing, and I haven't been able to find any uploads to youtube.

Scott streams on twitch fairly frequently and while I don't watch them very often, they can be fun. I'm not sure if he talks about his health issues there or not, but there's probably archives that people could look through for more context.

I mean they are in theory coming out with a new album """"soon"""" - a handful of new songs have been played at shows within the last year or two. By kalnoky standards that means a new album is practically around the corner, but for the rest of us that means it might be a few more years before anything comes of it.

drat, catch-22 is still kicking??

hot take but while Streetlight is way better, I thought Dinosaur Sounds and Permanent Revolution were solid post-Tomas albums

They're both fantastic and I'm sad they never did anything since, I was especially excited to see how they'd follow up Permanent Revolution since it has such a great and unique sound.
